My first guitars were my mom's from when she was a kid:

Electric - Zim Gar strat style late 70's
Acoustic- Applause Red bowlback from the late 70's

When I got older like 14, my dad took me to a local mom and pop shop and bought me a BC Rich Warlock starter pack. I wanted to be like Mick Thompson so bad lol. Then after playing guitar for about a year after that I stopped playing metal, so I saved up and sold the warlock and picked up a MIM Black Fender Strat with an emerald pick guard.

My first amp was the bc rich 15 watt ss amp that came with the warlock. My mom put a 15 watt limit on amps after that cuz she said it was too loud. haha

When it came time to put strings on my first axe, I had to look at my EVH poster to see which side the thick strings went on, lol

a 1987 Ibanez RG570 and a Dean Markley Spectra bass amp with a DS-1 pedal. Still have both, but I had the Ibanez refinished and re-fretted years later. It didn't look that good when I got it, I think my friend used it for a hammer at one point while he owned it.

My first electric was a Hondo Strat, Black with white pickguard, possibly MIJ. It was pretty good actually. And a Crate G-20 Amp with a DOD supra distortion, this was 85' or early 86'.

My first guitar was a Peavey Raptor. It is a Strat ripoff, and a terrible one at that. It was black, with a rosewood fretboard. I hated that guitar and sold it shortly afterwards. My mother was pissed. Instead, I learned on my friend's acoustic. I was 16 at the time. A little while into my 17 year, my mother bought me a Epiphone Les Paul. This was back in '98, when I was extremely into Everclear. The LP was a really sweet guitar -- a goldtop, but not your traditional goldtop -- it was a gold sparkle top! She also bought me my first amp the same day, which was a Fender Rock Pro. It had tubes in it, but I don't think it was a full on tube amp. Whatever it was (I can't remember the exact model name), the amp rocked!

Years later, I out grew that guitar and fell in love with the Strat, even though the SG Standard was the best looking guitar I'd ever seen. I also had a Marshall solid state amp, with effects built in to it that I also loved.

Fast forward to now. In 2008 I decided to invest in good gear and sell my soul to the power of the dollar. I know own three tube amps (Mesa, Marshall, Fender), and three American guitars -- a Gibson SG Standard, Gibson Les Paul Traditional, and a Fender American Stratocaster.

I wish I never got rid of my older guitars. Especially the Epiphone and my first MIM Strat. That Strat was the best MIM ever! Seriously. It was a 2002 and had a killer Ice Blue Metallic finish.

My first Guitar/amp was the Behringer Vtone Package for like 110$.

My First REAL set up, on the other hand,
Was a 1990 Jackson Soloist ArchTop Trem Pro (Trans Amber)
and a Marshall 50 Split Channel Reverb (1987-89?)
Both Passed down from my Grandpa.
And A Fender Ultimate Chorus Amp.

Best setup Ive ever had the pleasure of playing.

My first electric rig when I was 4 was an Epiphone Pee Wee Les Paul into an older Peavey Rage 108 amplifier... That guitar never did stay in tune so my parents got a Squier Mini for me the next year, and I upgraded the Rage 108 to the newer Rage 158 around the same time. I still have both the Strat and newer Rage.

First Guitar: Ibanez RX Series, still own it...
First Amp: Fender 15 Watter with Reverb
First Tube amp: Marshall JCM 800 1959 non master volume

Asbury Korean lefty strat copy, canary yellow and black.

GE boom box that I smashed the top open to gain Access to the mic line in cables.

I soldered a jack onto the wires where the mic was. If I placed tape deck one on play and hit record and pause on the second deck I could play through the boom box. If I released the pause button it would record my playing.

It ook a few years before I discovered distortion. Did that by using my Walkman copy as a preamp tp overload the boom box input. Yeah ss input clipping didn't sound so hot but i had something to play through until I got my first summer job as a lifeguard and bough a fender performer 1000 combo.

trying to remember amp

first guitar was some nylon thing from east germany, then an ibanez artwood acoustic

a yamaha pacifica 112 . and solid state 30w amp I just can't remember who made it, first 'real' amp i remember was a marshall VS100r, those were the days lol

Peavey Back Stage Plus, Peavey Road Master Head and a Gorilla got all three for Christmas way back in the day

Gibson SG Firebrand, Peavy Mark III 300w 1x15 combo, and a Boss DS-1 circa 1980, or so...

Funny how alot of us guys that started playing in the 80's.....had the Old Peavey's...
That and a DOD American Metal.....was GOD TONE!! :D

My very first guitar was a cheap classical guitar my mom bought for me when I was 12, I took guitar lessons with it for 3 years, at 15 my mom got me this MIA strat (still have it, and it's one of my main guitars), it came with fender S/S/S/ which I then modded to the EMG system you see there like 2 years after I got the guitar, nowadays it's got a Suhr FL/FL/SSV system in there.

The amp was a Marshal Valvestate VS100 combo (Solid State with one preamp tube). sold it like 4 years ago actually.

Sears SG with a crappy wannabe Bigsby (sort of) trem. I wanted it because it looked 'evil,' just like Angus Young's. First amp? A Marlboro 15 watt SS combo.

And someone always remarks 'A Marlboro amp? I bet it smoked. lol' For the record? Nope. Not even if you set it on fire...

No pics of the first, but here is one of my second guitar... A Harmony V.

Yes, those are genuine red electrical tape fret dots, custom installed by me.

Mailman, I saw your Electra. I remember that shape! I cannot find any pics of my Electra, turns out a lot of my old pics disappeared around the time I was divorced...
Ha ha! I had a Marlboro amp too, mine was only 7 watts though.

Hondo II LP copy---Marlboro amp and a Muff Fuzz distortion. Awesome stuff!
