my friend keeps trying to convince me that TOOL and APC are just the cats ass.

sorry, i got tired of that approach during the "grunge" period that took over.
you know, stare at the floor and whine/drone on about your political views and nonsensical shit while the guitar player pulls your puppett strings behind the scenes.

oh, wait, that sounds like every band i've ever seen!

Different strokes and all...

The new Mr Big album is SUPERB...if you like 80's rock with big choruses and tons of chops.

And its been produced by Kevin Shirley who has done wonders to update the sound without fucking with the formula....

I'm not a fan of Mr. Big but I really dig what Shirley does with bands. By Your side is my favorite Black Crowes CD and it was no surprise to find out he did it. That guy likes big guitars and rock n roll.

Heres a few that I have noticed often get forgotten.

EZO/Flatbacker

Killer Dwarfs

Alcatrazz

New stuff:

New Accept is unbeliebavle
Reckless Love (Finish Hair Metal)
Steel Panther (One of the best guitar recordings ever, despite the lyrics)

Old stuff you haven't heard
Doug Aldrich - Bad Moon Rising/Burning Rain

Votes for XYZ, Loudness, Babylon A.D., Firehouse (skip the ballads!)

EXTREME

Get the new live DVD, it will blow you away!

I received it for Christmas and can't stop watching it.
