Hey Guys,
So I did this tune years ago after my parents died and a few of some great friends did as well. This style of music isnt typically what I normally play but I try to be diverse in my songwriting. Anyways..... I always thought it was too long but never did any edits. It was never intended to be released and I honestly could care less if people thought it was too long. I wrote it for me to help get me thru a real shitty time.
Now after quite a lot of years the record co. is thinking of releasing this as a single. I went back in recently and did some edits and want to make sure everything is still flowing as it should. It wasnt a lot but I did bring it down a full minute and 2 seconds. Mainly the choruses and the guitar solo. I am not sure if the solo still flows well, so I'd like some feedback on that and also just to make there are no glitching in the edits. The songs are labeled so you can tell which is which Thanks very much guys!

I did quite a lot of guitar tracking for this to add some texture and clarity in the choruses. It was just the singer, key player and myself. Originally done on 24 track tape, which we mastered from, then transferred to digital. All the editing was done digitally. Thanks again!

I think the solo flows just fine, but I see what you mean, too. It's fine as is, not that my opinion matters, but if it was me and I had the time, I might do it again with the edited version in mind. It's a great song! Music has been the only thing that I've ever found to get me through so many things, so I completely get where you're coming from.

Good stuff man! I thought it sounded amazing and definitely dig the second one better, especially where the solo is shortened a bit. If there is anything I'd fix, there is a word in the chorus before the solo where you sound like you kind of choke a bit. I can't remember which word and need to listen again.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Its appreciated.
It looks like I will keep the edited solo on the new version.
ROMANIANREAPER-- You have a great ear. Thats exactly where one of the edits happen. We went back and forth on it cause I hear exactly what you're talking about. I think its a very slight vibrato change when he sang that as apposed to the 1st time. I have some plugins I can run that part thru and see if I can get it any better. The edits are right on the beat so before I go cutting it up again I'm gonna try something different. But really appreciate the feedback from all you guys. This will be released internationally, but if its going to be a single I need to make sure its right. LOL

Oh, btw, a friend of mine did the vox. I did all the guitars, arrangements and production and our studio wizard did keys and drum programs. The singer had international fame long ago and the studio guy has won awards for doing Styx, bride..and a bunch of other heavy hitters. I Had some really great help with this one.

very very nice.
you have a weee lil bit of talent their my friend
way better than i can ever do
solo was awesome.

Thanks man! Yeah years of doing my own recordings and hearing feedback from folks and then recently being in a real studio with my band. It is crazy what your ears pick up.

Yeah like you said if it is going to be a single, really go over it because it is worth the work for sure. That is a solid song! 💪 And by the way, sorry about your folks man. My Dad is in a home and my Mom is up there in age as well. It is rough going theu this part of life but we.are all going to be there eventually.

It is the word "Side". Sounds awesome on the first chorus and is just a bit off on the second one.
Came here to say this. Everything else sounds great

I think the solo musically is fine, but the effects sound "off" compared to the rest of the recording, like it isn't as "hi fi"

I might redo it with a tone in mind for the edited version

That is the edited version. I can move things around but thats about it. I just wanted to make sure the solo edit still flowed like the original as there is no more walk up. It was done with my 73 strat on an older 70's Fender. There is no way unfortunately to go back and redo anything as it was already mixed and mastered and the original 2 inch tape is looooong gone! LOL I'm ok with the tone as it kind of fits the overall vibe of the tune, but if this was for my normal stuff I would NOT have let that go down to tape! LOL Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it.

Well keep at the bigger studios! I am still learning the digital realm. I used to splice tape with a razor. I lost a few good mixes learning that. LOL
My main setup was a 16 track 2 inch machine the size of a pizza oven. It all ends up on digital nowadays, but those old tape machines did sound great.
The album we did with producer Dave Prater was done on a 24 track 2 inch, then each track transferred to modified Adats, which were then synced to an Akai 12 track for guitar solos. It was a crazy process but we tracked here in NJ and wound up finishing in Texas, and that studio had already put their tape machine away, hence the Adats. They did have a beautiful Sony 64 track digital machine but the Adats worked just as well as they had modified converters or some shit..LOL I cant remember..But thanks for the kind words man. Again, very much appreciated!

I listened to most of both and think both sound great, I personally liked the longer solo on the first version.
