Need some honest speaker advice for my cabinet.

Hi guys,

Let me bring you up to speed. Just received my modded BFG Insane 80's Head from Brian last week. I love it.
I own and play through a Peavey 6505 cabinet. The cab doesn't sound bad with my Peavey ultra plus head. But.. Its doesn't sound that great when I use it with my BFG. I mean if I use eq, and some pedals, I kinda get a decent sound, but I still feel its missing that major kick in the balls.

I know the peavey gets a bad rap on here sometimes, but I got a sweetheart deal on New Old stock (Under $300), so I couldn't pass it up. I play 80's metal & hard rock. The basic's, looking to do a modest upgrade.

I've never changed out my speakers before. I need some guidance from experienced ears

1. If I get 2 different sets of speakers, do I install them in a x pattern?
2. My price point is around $250-$300, used is fine, what do you suggest speaker wise.

I found these, are they any good for my needs? Also how are WGS Speakers?

The amp will sound a lot better. Find out what kind of speakers Brian used to voice the amp, perhaps you can get the same.

Otherwise, sell the cab, add the $300 you can spend and buy something with Greenback or V-30 type speakers.

If I remember my conversation with him, he also has a 6505 cabinet, but he has Scumback M75/H55 in his. I think they are not in my price point.

I might go with G12h30's. I have the Heritages in a cab and dig them. Theres a quad of the 12h-30 on here for 300 I think. Great price.

Not to imply that Weber Legacys are identical to Scumbacks, but they are designed to largely accomplish the same thing and lots of guys on here have them and love them.....

With that in mind, and given your price point, might I suggest two of each of the following for your 4x12 cab:

Weber Legacy, 30 oz magnet, 75 hz cone style, Standard British dust cap, 65 watts, 16 ohm
Weber Legacy, 50 oz magnet, 55 hz cone style, Standard British dust cap, 65 watts, 16 ohm

You can wire up your 4x12" for 16 ohms @ 260 watt power handling.

This will basically "mimic" the Scumback M75/H55 combo Brian used in his cab and, best of all, these speakers are on sale at the moment for 25% off. At $122 per driver at the regular price, you'd be looking at......

4 x $122 X 0.75 = $366 plus shipping.

You could go X pattern but, with the 55 hz bass cones, I'd personally put the two 55 hz on the bottom and the two 75 hz on top.

You could go X pattern but, with the 55 hz bass cones, I'd personally put the two 55 hz on the bottom and the two 75 hz on top.

Exactly what I just did with the Heritage cones. Cab thumps.

The Eminence speakers you linked are cool also, but they'd be more for a gain monster like a Herbert or Recto.
