Agreed that this place isn't what it was 3-5 years ago but everything changes. That whole time frame was generally pretty cool and exciting for gear geeks because there was (IMO) a shift in what was considered popular and up-and-coming -although the stuff had been around forever, racked pedals, midi rigs, modded amps were still sort of just coming into the reach of most of us and those things were a little more exciting. Now they're commonplace. The market is saturated with everything! I think it's sort of a "been there, done that" feeling for many of us.

I think we were more united, waiting for the next big thing like the Camerons, Friedmans and Fortins and all of the ampfests.. Now we're more segregated and compartmentalized in our interests so there's no really big impact on the forums anymore. Sort of how music has become, where there's no big global impact anymore. At least not like it used to be.

Oh, and the whole "royalty" on forums mentality is a little silly but that's just my humble opinion. Still love ya Mo Lots of old time RT peeps still here.

Well I'll be taking my Jim Kelley, Two Rock and other gear discussions elsewhere

I'm on Guitar Forums since 1995. I've been on RT since Sgt Thump, when it started. With things like Facebook, I believe marks the end of the good old days of the guitar forum. I check in once in a while, but it's the same cast of characters, same amps, etc. Boring

Funny that two of the guys most dissatisfied and have the most to say in this post are two (among a few others) of the biggest problem with this forum as of late. People being dicks and argumentative or plain rude assholes to others on the forum was not such a problem a number of years ago. If you don't like the people or the discussions don't let the door hit you in the ass. If the amps that are discussed aren't your thing then maybe this isn't the place for you. Plenty of other places discuss Two Rock and other amps and they are the thing on those forums.

To talk shit about Pete Thorn takes a LOT of balls (and with such vitriol too like he fucked your girlfriend-if you even have one) . Heard nothing from this poster to even come close to all the diverse and excellent, work Pete has done and all he shares with the forum, he unlike most here is a real working full time musician and if he demo's a piece he puts it out for you to hear. Just a shame but it is the state of things today...some people just really suck. That is all....

I have been thinking about this topic a lot since creating my own forum...this question of whether forums are dead.

So, here are my thoughts..

On Facebook:
1) I am a member of at least 5 Facebook groups...it's unmanageable and just a lot of noise. It's too much sometimes.
2) Facebook groups are not indexed by Google or other search engines so no one outside of Facebook can discover it. How many times have you searched for something and found the answer from an older forum post? I know I have a zillion times.

But putting Facebook aside, for me at least, it's about meeting people with similar interests...sharing our exploits and just shooting the shit. There doesn't have to be some grand plan/reason to be here...like finding the brown sound...

I have learned a lot from people, pro and non-pro alike, and it's been awesome.

I hope it doesn't die and I'm going to keep Groomed Cock-gobblers alive as long as I am into it.

Seriously...what is left to talk about? Its not as if I don't like the people (well there are a few trollers I don't like). I'm sure Facebook has a lot to do with it. I'm FB friends with a lot of folks from different forums. Hell even old forums I was a part of now have FB pages. I join but don't follow. Honestly after beating the same topic into the ground, same people, same pictures, same discussions year after year after year and now to see the same shit dug up old shit year after year after year what is the fucking point?...it has all been seen and discussed x100000.

Seems to become more of a fanboi social media marketing really. Right now on this board it is Suhr guitars and Fortin or Freidman amps....it will be a different flavor in the near future, rinse repeat...buy hottest flavor...sell hottest flavor in classified.
