That amp loaded would be more money than any other boutique avaliable. ;)

I know.....I had PLENTY OF ROUNDS with the MTS amps.

Good amps....but not for the Gear hound that has GAS!
Modding them modules....the custom modules....$$$$

Just my 2cents.

I come to think the MTS stuff would actually be pretty unhealthy for you Dan haha... I can just imagine you late at night with 12 modules, first it starts out with getting them all modded, and then trying mods by different people to see which sounds the best... Friedman, Gigmods, Salvation... lol, then it's pre amp tubes for every module, gotta have NOS amiright? Then the different kinds of power tubes lmao... before you know it you'd be curled up fetal position in the corner rocking back and forth petting the modules... pretty MTS, pretty MTS... hahahaha.

12 modules 24 pre amp tubes, endless options of mods and power tubes... I'd go catatonic trying to deal with that LOL.

Ewe did anyone else notice that on the back it says assembled in China?? :( Why Randall, your Lynch head was USA right???

nah man, all of the Randall stuff is crappy unreliable Chinese. on a three month tour an artist I tech for went through 6 RM 100 heads, no joke. I swiftly convinced him to look elsewhere, free is only awesome when it works.

I swear the Lynch Box I had said made in the USA on it man, plus it even had the boards inside that said Engater Mod100, the thing was built like a tank its the only amp I NEVER had any issues at all with!

Been thinking about this more. though great for the studio I dont think this is practical for live especially when you can buy three of the others and the power amp and be able to split them into separate cases for portability.

Hell as is, it's probably still lighter than the RM100..... F'n HEAVY amps.

Yeah that RM100 is heavy as hell!

yeah elt me take that back, I havent used the lynchbox, but all of the other gear we used from randall for guitar and for bass was made in china.

also remember that assembled in the usa could mean they just put the chassis in the headshel here . somehow these days that is enough to qualify.

Well I'm sure that's the case, because I know the trannys were not made here, they were knock off heyboers and the boards 99% chance made in China as well... so I know what you mean.

I've been really lucky then I guess - one custom Lynch Box head, one custom KH100, three RM100s, an RM50, two RM20s and a RT 2/50 power amp with the RT4 preamp and none have had any issues. I've gigged or rehearsed with all of them.

Oh, I take that back, one RM100 *was* DOA because a spade connector worked loose on the power switch. Took all of 15 minutes to fix and most of that was removing the amp from the chassis.

I've had more trouble with Mesa amps than Randall - ever had a mesa amp blow a hole in the PCB? I have, but not on any of the Randalls. :)

Dallas,
you dont know how right you were on this! :D
I went thru them all.......
Anyone that knows me from the MTS forum can vouch. ;)

Much happier these days.

Yeah I think you have been very lucky, though who knows maybe the sponsored artist products are factory seconds . :dunno:

we had dead midi boards , tube sockets, capacitors and three undetermined failures, it was just a nightmare. I liked the modular concept and the sounds we were getting out of the heads they were just always broken. I failed to mention we also had two bass amps go down. one lasted one day the other two weeks.

As for the Mesa gear no opinion as I have no experience with them really.

Edit: let me add another story, during the European festival season we had a Randall loaner that went down. I traveled across england to the English distributor to swap out the head.

I asked to play the RM100 loaner they handed me, so we went back inside and they hooked it up; dead. they were very embarrassed that I almost left with a useless head so they decided to give me a brand new one out of the box. I asked to play this one first also; dead. to cut to the chase two more heads new out of the box successively were dead. yes that's right three dead brand new RM100 heads. I was so annoyed I wound up taking a SS head (the V2 I think) that worked, that one gave us no problems at all for the rest of the festivals but lacked in tone.

I'd still take 3 RM4s and an RT2/50 over that beast......cool as it is.

Module tone modding/chasing sure is hell though...I'm finally down to something like 17 modules with 4 up for sale thankfully...although that's more to do with common sense than not wanting 'em

Still very happy with my MTS gear though :-)

I am one of the few people i know who had problems with MTS gear, outside of tube/fuse issues....some kind of electrical issue took out the board on my RM50 (actual holes in it, electroplating removed).

It took Randall a long time to get me a replacement and from the information I got it sounded like boards were being re-worked fresh from the factory...so who knows what issues go on behind the scenes.

Tony (mctallica1) had a run of problems with an RM unit that I know of too....they're certainly not infallible.

Wow, bad TUBE SOCKETS? That's nuts on a new amp. Ditto for capacitors... I can see the midi boards because if they were plugged in wrong all sorts of bad stuff could happen, or if you had a power surge or issue too, I could see those as the 'weakest part' of the amp. What year was this? I could see it maybe on real early models, but all of them that I've come across were pretty robust and built as well internally as anything else in their price range.

Still sounds like a nightmare though!

They win the knob war.

Can that thing safely operate on a 15A electrical outlet?

This is my epitome of tone on the Randall:

It's forte is gain (not clean) so in a sense it's a 'one trick' item but with 3 killer voicings.... I should probably just buy a Mark III or IV but then I'd be missing out on a lot ;)

truthfully i think we had a tube take out the socket so I cant really blame the head for that one, I know for a fact that the Midi was always connected correctly as I did it myself . when the repair tech came out to service it on the road he said they were odd failures.

check the story i added to my last post as an edit. I am through with Randall for good these days, been burned too many times. YMMV

Steve - once things slow down here, send that in and I'll put the 'Ray Mod' on it - two way switch that gives you 6 different eq voices. Glad you're digging it!
