Congrats!
Wish I'd come across a C+.

It feels awesome!. Great liquid feel with a beautiful, singing sustain. I gotta say though, it’s a tad bit less forgiving than my III and IV. It’ll keep you a little more honest than the others, does that make sense? Probably because the others are more saturated and compressed, I’m sure.Racerxrated":34wsn1bk said:So I gotta ask....what do you think of the feel?Beyond Black":34wsn1bk said:I’ve had it for a week and I totally agree, it’s a pretty remarkable amp. That’s definitely what I hear! It just sounds so good stock, I’d like to have that available also. 2C+ x 2, bro.exo-metal":3dm09gdd said:You'll never use the sw...++ is legit AF bro!
No, it’s got a G12-80. The open back combo thing sounds really cool, but I’m playing it through two 4x12’s 99% of the time.SpiderWars":14h79qxa said:Nice! Is that a vintage G12-65 in it? If so, bonus!
Regarding the head cab you will have built...consider having the front panel removable so that preamp tube access is much easier. It's really tight in there with a reverb tank but thankfully you don't have to worry about that.
Try a little boost...it has a shit ton of gain, so not needed but you can add a little 'grease' and it helps add a bit of compression. I do it to add a bit more 'cut' as well.Beyond Black":2kzevb04 said:It feels awesome!. Great liquid feel with a beautiful, singing sustain. They also seem to love any boost or almost even any guitar I’ve played through it. I actually think my triple rev c/f is similar in that regard, but haven’t tried through it as many speakers/guitars/boosts yet since I got it more recentlyRacerxrated":7l42fi31 said:Try a little boost...it has a shit ton of gain, so not needed but you can add a little 'grease' and it helps add a bit of compression. Try all your speakers...it is the only amp I've ever played that loves ANY speaker I throw at it.
I did try an OD808 and an OD9, and they both kill, but I’m actually enjoying it in it’s purest form at the moment. But it definitely loves a good boost.Racerxrated":33uqwarq said:Try a little boost...it has a shit ton of gain, so not needed but you can add a little 'grease' and it helps add a bit of compression. Yeah, it plays nice with all my guitars/pickups cabs/speakers for sho. It’s definitely a very agreeable, low maintenance amp in that aspect. I’ve loved this amp from day one, and it’s actually growing on me more and more. Getting the ++ mod may also make it more in that direction, I just hope the clean channel on it would still be maintained

The foil/8th/9th are great in all positions. I haven't had any Tungsrams start to weaken; I have them in my 2203 and Super Tremolo and all 3 amps sound killer. If you can find some strong ones from a reputable seller I'd grab a few. They came stock in all the 2B/2Cs back in the day. I have tube rolled with Amperex, Mullard etc and I feel the Chinese and Tungsrams are still the way to go. But all Chinese sound great and even more aggressive than mixing the Tungsrams. It's one of those amps that will take most pre tubes and still sound killer. 415s are killer and a step up from any other 6L6 IMO. You are set.Beyond Black":2pv5qgwc said:The Tungsrams sounded kinda tired and lower mid gain, so I pulled them. I threw a Tung Sol in V1, and Shuguang Foil Getters in the rest, and it really came to life. More gain, and brighter and tighter. Still have the 415’s in there and they sound great. Got any better pre suggestions?

They are unique. If you have some Chinese pre tubes (8th/9th gen) play around with mixing those with the Tungsrams. Steve K (RIP) and others like to mix both; my C+ Coli has a combination of them.
Congrats1 I miss mine. I should have gotten mine with the switchable ++ when Mike modded mine to ++. I think it was $500 more. He said it was extensive with relays' etc..Beyond Black":260o1wac said:I’ve had it for a week and I totally agree, it’s a pretty remarkable amp. Keep in mind that the Chinese tubes do cause some hum in the amp, so use your ear.
I think one of the biggest things to do to a real 2C+ is use Sylvania 6L6's or 7581a power tubes.
Did not talk to him about the clean channel. I’ve heard it gives it a little dirt, but nothing that can’t be cleaned up by turning some knobs.Tiger1016":31y1hjw2 said:Nice score! And enjoy the new beast to its fullest!
Would love to try out a SG. GJgo talked me into believing it would be the slightly better IIC+ model for me.
Would also love to go with the switchable ++ mod as well, basically for the more low mid emphasis. When you talked to Mike B, did he give you any details on what happens to the clean channel after doing it? It is always crunchy and dirty right?
With how well these things can be EQ'ed and take pedals, I am honestly so damn happy, I don't feel like I need to bother with the mod. I am loving the results using an Airis Parallel Tube Screamer, Savage Drive, or Nebula in front, then a parametric EQ in the loop, and then another parametric EQ after running it through a Boss Waza TAE and IRs. These things provide some of the best feel and can be sculpted to sound however you want.
BTW I just got some Chinese 8 gen 12ax7s from psychodave. Compared to the JJs that mine had come with, they add just the right amount of bite and tightness. I can see why so many like this pairing.
