I like it! Thanks for posting. Gotta love Jerry's unmistakable dark guitar tone!

They've been done for me since after Dirt, and this new one doesn't make me feel any different. Sounds like complete auto pilot and the vocals are bland, no matter how may layers you do. These guys need a lead singer with some vocal presence and balls stat. The production on the last one was killer but the material didn't substantiate it.

I can agree with the bolded part. Duvall just doesn't cut it.

AIC is my favorite band, hands down.

That are not just Layne or Jerry. The greatness of Layne in his screaming intense power was one of a kind. Jerry is a riff master and band leader and soul. I can appreciate all of the eras of AIC. That said, depending on the mood, I can dig Nutshell, Your Decision, Rooster, Would, Lesson Learned...

The power of playing enough, not too much.

My thoughts on Layne? Listening to Your Decision seems to sum it up. The last CD had much deeper meaning than I have found in most works. It was heavy. As expected, when you look into self destruction around you while surviving with a few wounds. Awesome work.

I look forward to a long weekend of listening to the new CD in the future. The tone Jerry gets is always perfect for the song. The tour will be epic... I wonder who the support bands will be. Who would be a good match. I could dig Chevelle opening.

I like the shared, subdued vocal style of the new AIC. I'm not going to whine over and yearn for past glory, especially since this is the best lead vocalist replacement job in a major rock act since AC/DC. Yup I just said that.
Cantrell would have looked like an asshat if he got some Staley wannabe carbon copy vocalist to do the job. He's smart, so he found a talented singer with a vocal harmony likeness to Staley, but who can also contribute and has his own look going on.
Also, I don't want some ballsy frontman in this band pelting me with alpha male hard rock machismo. They're not trying to compete with bands likes AlterBridge. They're beyond that.

I saw them on the last tour and Cantrell's tone was God like. I knew it would be good but I was shocked at just how good his tone was live, easily the best live tone I've heard in a while..or ever.

YES! Saw them in '09 and his tone was so damn good! Easily one of the best I've ever heard.

I dig the new stuff. It's better than most of the stuff out there these days and it holds up AIC's legacy well considering there's no Layne. I think they did an admirable job with William. I also think the reason Jerry sang so much on the last one was to ease people into the new guy. That way, people hear Jerry's voice which is already associated with AIC's sound and William's voice has time to fit in to the sonic picture and grow on people. I hope he sings a lot more on this one.

Yeah, I think he may be better suited for original material. When I saw them he sounded ok, but he wasn't able to pull off most of Layne's grittier, intense vocals and they used quite a bit of effects during those parts to try and cover it up. It was still, all in all, a pretty good performance by him though, i was surprised.

I think as already mentioned the tone is killer as always and I actually really like the track and am very happy to support these guys buy buying there cd when it comes out and seeing them on tour when they come to Denver again.

For those of you who don't like it ... would you rather they not put anything out at all? Layne is gone and that is a shame , but for you to say oh this guy isn't Lanye.. he isn't .....etc etc..... It's time to get over it and just enjoy some new AIC don't you think???

Is is what it is and it fucking rocks too me

Duvall is as good as you can get for this type of role. I'm glad they didn't try to find someone to either copy Layne, or who already had built a strong, known legacy with another band. BTW, Duvall's old band, Comes With The Fall, is pretty good.

As much as I love what Layne contributed to AiC and as much as I respected him as a musician, the fact is it's his fault he's not here anymore to continue on the legacy. It's unfair to hold that against the band now (Duvall in particular). I thought Black Gives Way To Blue was as good as any other AiC album, which is to say great.

This is true. So many kill themselves by slowly executed choices. I don't deify guys that OD out or kill themselves. It's pretty fucked up really. Sad, but messed up.

Power to the survivors. Mad respect.

I certainly don't hold it against the band, nor do I think this music is bad. I just don't dig the vocals as much, and I certainly don't think that Cantrell was the only important member of the band.

Some of you seem like you might start lubricatin' around the eyes if any more people say they don't care for the new vocals
I never understood the attitude of supporting a band that's this big financially. I mean supporting as in buying a CD you think is just OK but buy anyway. I'm sure Jerry and the boys appreciate the help with the property taxes on their homes. AC/DC is my favorite band but I haven't bought a new release since Blow Up Your Video and LIve at Donnington. They just haven't been worth buying. A few singles maybe. I'll still see them live because they still deliver there. I like speaking with my money and not buying a band's stuff that I think is average. It might let them know it could be better. They have enough yes people blowin' smoke up their ass as it is.

Plus I think It's hysterical to think they would waste a comeback full album on getting us "used" to a different singer by burying him to where you can hardly tell he's there. You just pop out an EP, tour a bit, make sure good vids get on-line. Black into Blue sounds like it was pretty much finished before Duvall was seriously involved and they sprinkled him on just to get him on there. AIC's music has so much weight/girth to it they need a lead vocalist who can match it and soar above it. He doesn't have that quality IMO.
