Wizard MTL MKII E34L - AIC Clips

Two short clips of songs from different eras of Alice in Chains. Guitar is a Les Paul Custom from 71 with original TTops.

Them Bones: Rhythm Channel (Black Cat On, Boost On), boosted with the Leopard Boost. This may be my favourite tone I am getting out of this amp. Very open and percussive. Excuse my wrong bend in the solo, I was in a hurry and the recording is in one take.
All Secrets Known: Lead Channel (Boost On, Shift Off), more saturated, congested but fits later AIC tones very well.

Thanks! Yes I agree them bones can be dialed further to get closer to the original tone but I also like this dry and raw sound; it demonstrates the inherent character of that channel well.

When I had an MTL, i always thought it was the perfect thrash amp. If Slayer used it on their records, it would just be epic

Ouf, that would create wonders in that kind of setting though it’s capable for many other. I would have wished to hear it in the hands of Mastodon and Alice in Chains. However the bigger bands which use Wizard’s are mainly in the rock scene

Honestly im not even sure which big acts use Wizards

Ive heard Metallica (James) used it on Garage Inc, Foo Fighters (Pat) uses/used it live, and finally the blonde young guy in Judas Priest

And i think they all use Modern Classics? I do t know that Ive seen the MTL or HellRazor in any touring rigs just yet

That’s what I am aware of as well. I saw some images from Adam Jones during the recordings of 10000days and Fear Inoculum but that’s it.

I think more people on rig talk use wizards than actual professional touring artists

Dont get me wrong i love mine but its just funny how limited of a population it is

Haha that’s very possible. Here in EU, in the used market they are around the same price with a Friedman BE100 or Bogner Uber Ultra. But they are very rare, I only know a handful. I would like to try the HR one day….

HellRazor is the other one I owned. Just pure utter insanity, that amp. You can just add all gain on the planet and the articulation/note separation retains. Just the tightest chunkiest amp ive ever played. If I played heavier music, i would have not sold it. But it was too much for me.

Between 4000-4500€… They are good amps but Rick is 1000 years ahead I think. MTL has the most brutal crunch I have ever heard from an amp. I am not into veery heavy / modern music as well, thus MTL fits my needs 99%, just curious. I also owned MC but prefered MTL, they were similar enough to keep only one. MTL is more versatile and I like the vicious character.

The Pretty Reckless, Airbourne and The Living End are all big proud Wizard users.

There has been discussion of Wizzers being part of 'Vulgar Display..' and Dimebag's arsenal. Unable to find any pics though, just comments in interviews.

Not sure if the Wizards from FI are actually Joe Barresi's or Adams, but they were part of the studio tone chasing.

There is also a Wizzer in white head shell in the Metallica camp, setup during Kirks parts during the HWTSD sessions, but I'm unsure who owns it. James has his usual main black MC1. I've never heard Kirk mention using a Wizard in all his usual rambling post album interviews, but it's clearly visible in the sessions. Could have been a loaner and not his. Speculating.

Satriani has been using them in the studio since Crystal Planet era (98) but more so on his later albums from (2010) 'Black Swans..' to 'What Happens Next' There is some on the Chickenfoot III album, you can see a couple of Wizards in the studio footage. Not sure if they are Satriani's amps or producer Mike Fraser's. He states most of the album was using his (new at the time) JVM HJS but the making of footage shows the Wizards below making an appearance in th background here and there. Perhaps some added texture or overdubs?

Def my old Uberschall Rev blue king kt 88s . I got great AIC tones out of it . My friend had it . Won’t sell it back
