I use a Mesa Flux Drive and although I can hear all the collective guffaws about how I should not use a boost let alone a Mesa boost........

It sounds and feels fantastic. Orgasmatron !

But does it sound good on channel 1? And does it add enough grit without adding volume?

Nice! HNAD!

I had a 5153 stealth for a week, returned it because it sounded identical to my 5150 212 combo, bought a Mark IV. Not looking back!

Being a fellow OCD owner your question confuses me. The pedal has a volume knob on it....

I'm really liking the JP2C I have also.....I've had the Stealth too

The Stealth is cool but from what I remember the clarity isn't as good as the JP. They both have a similar American voicing but you can tweak the JP a lot more. I also like using a boost pretty much with any amp , its just that little bit of extra tightness and push that seems to Always be beneficial on high gain tones for me.

Enjoy the amp ! I thought I would give one a shot and sell it but just like you mine is staying . I've owned mark III, IV ,V and a whole slew of different rectos , the JP is probably the best Mesa for me, I gotta try it in a live mix next and see how it sits.

My Jp-2c arrived. Love it so far dialed a good tone in 3 minutes. Sounds stellar. My 5153 50 watt went bye bye.

So would this replace a Splawn Quickrod for Marshallesque tones?

I'm sure the OP can share his thoughts. Personally having owned splawn quickrod/nitro and the JP I think they are very different amps. On top of that I find Splawn amps to have a unique voice in the Marshall camp, a bit more dry and clear than other Marshall style amps. With that being said I've also had a JVM and played many JCMs .....

The Mesa is a Mesa just a pretty different voicing , IMO the JP2C is an american voiced amp that excells at metal , can do other stuff but the gain channels are geared towards the higher gain stuff and the clean channel is designed to not break up. I would say there are Marshalls that could do mid gain stuff and the plexi type tone better if that's what u like
