I tried one the other day and felt really meh about it. It had a Snorkler sitting on top and that is the Bogner to grip it and rip it with. They also had a used 20th KT77 Ecstasy and I was stoked to finally get to try a 20th and it was also just OK. Would still prefer a regular 101B over both these models.

4500 is a hard sell when a 101B on FB Marketplace or reverb is only 2k.

100% agree.

That said - in 2025 dollars my 101b costed $3600+ in 2004. It was new but second-hand to me. It’s been a great terrible investment.

The entire amp was redesigned from the ground up. Both amps were designed by the same guy and they are both in the Ecstasy family so they’re similar, but the 101B’s red and blue circuits were not directly forklifted over to the 104, no.

That’s why I sold my 98 Bogner for 3100. After inflation I lost my ass on it but that’s closer to what it’s worth in current dollars to what I paid back in 2018.

No, they are different. Snorkler is juicier and thicker sounding with 800 DNA while the Helios has a more lively hot rodded plexi sound to it. The snorkler has a meaner sound to it IMO.

That’s why I sold my 98 Bogner for 3100. After inflation I lost my ass on it but that’s closer to what it’s worth in current dollars to what I paid back in 2018.

I bought the xtc to keep so initial cost hasn’t been much of a burden. If sold today (hypothetically) for the same price I paid in 2004, inflation turns that $2150 into $1250 - so about $40.00 per yr of ownership ($900), notwithstanding tube changes.

2K +/- is a steal for a 101b. Moreover, if it’s a long term keeper, the 104 really is not out of line at 4.5K - I’ll bet it’s a killer amp and manufacturing in the US has become challenging to say the least. I have alot of admiration for Reinhhold Bogner and his personal work ethic.

I’d really like to try one myself. Not very many demos so far. I HOPE the demos so far are not a good example. Otherwise someone needs to get Reinhold back on some 90s “ecstasy”. Even the faceplate is a bit to reserved for what I was expecting.

Yeah. For my taste, in person, it’s a step down, aesthetically, from the OG look.
