Perhaps you can elaborate a bit on the effect the NOS preamp tubes had on the tone and response of the amp?
Mullards tighten up the bass, make the midrange extremely vocal and smooth/liquidy feeling, and smoothes out any fizz on the top end.

slightly tighter bass...Particularly on the Ultra Gain (red mode) would be welcomed...How dramatic was the change? Definitely noticeable?

To me it was. I use the Red Channel in it now without issue. In my case - I swapped tubes in V2, V3, & V4 with Mullards. I would say just one in the EQ/V4 right before hitting the output tubes does the most shaping to the Bass and Treble response, so if I could only do 1 slot, it would be V4.

That being said - each slot corresponds to a channel mode/gain mode in certain ways, so you should experiment.

I don't wanna be too harsh, but whern I first got the combo, I immediately thought - "can't use half of these channels and sounds kinda tinny"

Swapped in a Fane M65 and put in some Mullards and play it on all the channels happily.

Oh man, there's a real clean DSL100HR on the local FB Marketplace for $450. I have another Suhr SL67 being delivered tomorrow. I just cannot fit any more amps in the house.

That's still a VERY good price. After playing now for a little over a week, I am pretty impressed. I like enough that I am considering some basic upgrades such as a transformer and per-amp tubes.

Ordered those Mullards

Found some NOS
Think of the tubes kind of EQ shaping at different stages. This is why I believe the Mullard in V4 to shape the overall sound before it hits the output stage to work best for my needs. You may find it works in another position better for whatever reason. A good Mullard can't do you wrong no matter what slot you try it in a UK flavored amp.
