After what seemed like a long search, and not knowing what amp to get, I finally made a decision and bought an old VHT Pitbull CL100. (Thanks MIke). I got it a few days ago and so far, I'm very happy with it. The green channel was very easy to dial in. I'm using it with the graphic EQ in a V shape, and it sounds amazing! Its super high gain with a little hair on the top.

The red channel sounds darker and its been harder to dial in. So far I'm using it on the low gain channel, running the gain around 9 O'Clock with the volume and master volume pretty high. I'm getting this cool, warm clean sound that gives me a Dumble-esque tone when slightly overdriven. I've had trouble dialing the red channel in for a good hard rock/ high gain sound. Does anyone have a couple settings to give me that I can try out? I'd like to get it sounding something like this (it starts around 42 seconds in)-

So far, I'm running the amp in 100 watt mode and I keep switching between the A/B functionality depending on the feel that I want. As far as cabs go, I'm using it with an EVH 4x12 cab with Celestion EVH speakers and it sounds pretty good. I didn't like the tone with my mesa recto 2x12 cab with V30's. The EVH sounds bigger and is more open sounding and the mids really shine through. There is also a lot of bottom end. Wow! How do the Fat Bottom cabs sound in comparison?

Also, on mine, I'm not sure if the boost functionality is working or not. If it is, it sounds almost non-existant, almost like it boosts the low mids just a tad. Is the boost noticeable, or is it light and transparent. I'm new to this amp, so I don't really know?

When I use the graphic EQ, there is a noticeable volume boost. Is there any way to tame this so the volume jump isn't so extreme?

Anyhow, I'm vastly enjoying the amp. I bought it based off a Salvation MTS preamp that I love. I find the salvation to actually feel tighter, but the real deal vht has so much more bottom end and feels bigger while remaining tight. With the graphic EQ, controls for bringing it into the circuit along with he regular controls, it make this amp have a tone of different EQ options. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of what it can do. Last year, I bought a Mesa Mark V based of a MTS module I liked a lot and sold the amp two weeks later as I thought the module was better. This time, that's not the case. I made the right call and totally dig the VHT sound. I've been known to flip gear if the tone isn't exactly what I'm looking for, but this one seems like a keeper.

I regret selling mine but I had to.

What tubes do you run? I found this amp was VERY sensitive with tubes. It took me over a year of pre-amp tube swapping before I found "the sound".

The boost was not very noticable for me either althought I always had it ON, Edge ON and Shift OFF.

I didn't use the eq much. Maybe once in a while if I used a different guitar but I do not recall any volume jump whatsoever when I used the eq.

I had a Deliverance Cab and never tried that Fatbottom.

What I can tell you is it sounded really good but was TOO directional and focused for me. Standing in front sounded COMPLETELY different than standing to the side or behind the cab and the FB is supposed to be even more focused than the D cab. For my tastes I stayed away from that.

V30 x 75 sounded really good. I also tried an Ubercab but it was too fizzy or sizzly on the top end for me.

I really wanted to try the Trad Mesa Cab with that amp but never got to.

Great to hear you are digging it!

Congrats on the new amp.. nice to see you are enjoying it but remember, if there is one thing we know about you up to date, is that the honeymoon phase can be over very quickly. I am willing to bet that this one will be up for sale in 2 weeks! Remember, a lot of great sounds are not just the hands of the player or the amp, they are the producers and the mic and the signal chain. Don't be fooled by it or discouraged if you don't sound exactly like X or Z artist record using the "same" gear.

Actually when I got it, I played it for 45 mins and thought, "Eh, I'll sell it in a month". I thought it was ok, but nothing special. But then I started fooling around with all the settings and got this great tone out of the green channel. I'm running the green channel a little dark. The T/M/B/ knobs are all in the 12-2 O'clock range and the presence is dialed back. Combined with the graphic eq, it sounds like a thunderous marshall with the V-eq from a Mark Series amp and I dunno, with the scoop, it just works. I still haven't quite figured out the red channel. It sounds a little boomy for my tastes, so I'm running it as my clean channel, and trying different boosts so I can go from mellow clean to classic rock crunch. I'm not using the V-eq with it. Id rather use the red channel as a modern rock channel and have the green be more classic, so If anyone has a cool setting, I'd appreciate some tips on how you get your sound.

I really do think its a keeper, unless I get something else in the Fryette family of amps or a kemper, I don't plan to sell it any time soon. Combined with my other stable of amps, the only amps I could still use are a VOX AC30/15 (I don't like the VOX/ Matchless MTS preamps) and a loud bass rig. I actually wonder what a Fryette bass amp would sound like? Would it lack compression?
