New Iron Maiden Rig Rundown - Marshall JVM410H

Not really a surprise, I guess, seems like they've mostly just used the current flagship Marshall for decades. JCM2000s and the JMP1 prior to these.

Too bad he isn't bringing out the fancier Lado he used on Maiden England or one of his vintage Jacksons, I'm a sucker for the late 80s era.

I love Adrian! Such a badass player who always played for the song with great feel. Seriously, find me one bad solo he has ever done. One that you could say really sucks or was mailed in. There isn't one in 40 years imo. Also his stuff with Bruce, Accident of Birth is incredible. The guy is top tier.

Absolutely. Once he left and Janick came in they were left with two guys that (in comparison) are a collection of speedy licks strung together, and they lost a big part of the sound without that balance, even if I appreciate the Blackmore-ish stylings of Janick a lot more now than I did back then.

Adrian is a tasteful lead player, and my favorite of the 2, (I don't consider Janick a player, just an annoying 3rd wheel).
I REALLY need to get an HX Effects..

I can't stand Janick and actually while Dave was always the super fast pull off and hammer on guy, his style fit so perfectly with Adrian's .Now in my older age, I have more appreciation for a lot of Murray's leads because though fast, he knows the right notes to hit for the song and has some great leads himself like Powerslave, Ancient Mariner, Aces High etc.. just two guys who really compliment each other. But no question, when Adrian left, a HUGE part of the sound and formula left with him.

I wonder if he modded them? My buddy had Amazing results modding his.
Perhaps...the Marshall JVM410H is an amp that there are a ton of mods out there for...But I think that I may prefer mine bone stock. Only had it for about 8 weeks, but I don't see a reason to mess with it yet. Also, most of the standard mods out there seem to "tame" the amp to some degree, not what I'm looking for. If Ground Zero (@RedPlated), Jason (@burger), Monomyth or one of those guys developed a mod to make to slightly meaner and more aggressive, that would interest me.

I was thinking of buying one to play with and see what I can do with it. If one comes up local for a good price I’ll get it.

Very cool...Im in Los Angeles and would be open to having you work on mine if you're potentially interested as I really like the tone and response of your Marshall mods.

Yeah I didn't even know there were mods other than the crunch channel mod lol. Maybe a way to make it less noisy, maybe make the lower gain react a smidge better... but other than that? Sound-wise? IMO it's just right.

Supposedly he mailed Powerslave in.

Yes that was "mailed in" lol

This is why he's my favorite Maiden guitarist. Sure, Dave is more unique and Janick wrote some really cool epics and has nice acoustic riffs, but Dave has high highs and low lows; Janick, less said the better... H has no lows. It's only "high" and "higher"

Isn´t that story that he was totally hungover, mistakenly thinking he wouldn´t record that day, and that Robert Palmer of all people was there watching. A very vivid image.

oh I only knew about the hungover and didn't realize he had to record part. I didn't know that Robert Palmer was there

As a happy JVM410H owner, I'm waiting for the haters.

Always enjoy when pros use mass produced amps, even if they have some custom work done vs unobatnium booteek amps.

Much of my favorite music was made with guitars, amps, pedals, racks, that were available to everyone at the time.

Yep, had a modded one and it didn't last long. The biggest waste was replacing the iron with Mercury. Nothing wrong with Mercury it's just the stock iron is fine. Thinking back now I really don't know what mods I would do to the stock 410H except what they changed functionally on the Satch model.

I've long said Marshall just needs to update it with what they did to the Satch model "barring the tonal change". Tonally they tamed the hell out of that amp but I did like the gates and the serial loop.

Hmm, thinking more - I wouldn't touch OD1 orange or red or OD2 orange or red. The Crunch I'd give it more gain, less boom. I'd probably make that channel more like an 800 in green, add more gain in Orange and then Red would be the equivalent of say an SD-1 running into an 800. I mean the whole amp was based on the 800 platform and stacking layers of gain so the pieces are there.

Makes perfect sense, and as I alluded to in an earlier post in this thread, most of the most common mods out there seem to de-claw and neuter the amp a bit (including the Satch version). That said, I would be interested in a mod that made the crunch and OD channels slightly more aggressive and "modern". And I couldn't agree more with what you are saying about the crunch channel, if the amp has a weakness...That is it.

Cool stuff!
I would have liked to see the settings on the JVM’s, I think he would have mentioned they were modded if they were, but they are likely stock. No doubt they know how to dial them in for stadium tones. I had decent luck with JVMs, but I stayed around the OD 2 orange channel most of the time rather than the red.
The clean channel was actually pretty good for most clean stuff, not pristine or chimey but useful without having to roll back much.
The reverb was very good if you used reverb.
I did find it was biased pretty cold from the factory and getting it into the sweet spot made a huge difference, much better under the fingers and more pissed off sounding.
I sold it to fund something else but I kinda wish I still had it.
I’m a huge Maiden fan, but Jannik is annoying to me. Kinda like a cheerleader who is trying much too hard to be noticed in a band that was never about that at all..
But I’ll still see them everytime I can make it.
Seen them 11 times from NOTB onward.
They don’t have bad nights, but some were pure magic

UP THE IRONS!!!!!!
