So I kinda figured this was already covered by the SV20? But maybe I’m wrong :dunno:

Is there enough difference when turning the knobs to add this to one’s arsenal of tone if one already owns the SV20?

Or is Marshall just trying to cash in on the term “plexi”?

Everybody wants the plexi tone. Quite the buzzword at this point…

To me, it definitely sounds more round and squishy when driven than the SV20 I had. I think it would be a worthwhile addition if you love all the classic Marshall tones.

The official "Marshall forum" has a long discussion going on about this.

Do they?
I just saw these this morning.
Always late to the party!
Sorry guys...

First thought was it seemed to be crossing into the SV20 realm?
Ill check out the vids...

They have been discussing the JTM 20 for about a week at least . I don't expect everybody to know about that forum so seeing a thread about the new JTM 20 is to be expected on other guitar forums.

Well, I'll say they look nice.

Just went to TGP, did a search and have found a couple threads, a week old already...?‍♂️

Essentially this is a facelift with a higher price tag. Same product, nicer " vintage" more mojo packaging.

Many people say the Origen Marshall series are the closest to the JTM series . Many Marshall heads believe the Origen is closer to a Plexi but it's actually more related to the JTM series.

Just from what I've read on that forum and others talking about them.

I'm kinda surprised the head is only $1799.

But the horizontal cab being $1100 and the vertical being $1400, ugh.
Vertical cab is only $350 less than the head.

well, all the youtoob shills are busy with vids on the JTM 20.

Headfirst did a comparison of the SV20 and Origin20 - very similar builds/parts IIRC as shown is his comparison video; and with his mods take the Origin to JCM 800 levels.

edit: here's the comparison video:

The Studio series are built in the UK with mostly Asian parts vs the Origin built in Vietnam with mostly Asian parts. At least the new JTM 20 combo got a 12" speaker where the SV20 and SC20 combos got a 10".

I decided to try the Origin 50C 1x12 combo, I can get JTM-45 to SLP like tones, with a boost you can get into JCM 800 territory IME. I liked it enough to get the 50H, and I'm not disappointed. Is it going to rival the real Marshalls? No, but for the price Origin works for me. It's a basic single channel amp the feels and sounds like an old Marshall at a very low price.

The Origins (20s and 50s) are flooding the used market so it's easy enough to get one cheap and try it IMO before dropping the $ on the Studio series. I planned to get the SV20 and/or SC20 but tried the Origin first because it was cheap and I though it sounded good in the demo vids / audio clips. Origin killed my GAS for the Studio series amps.

For the Origin, start with the MV at 8 or higher, and adjust the other controls from there.

My ears are probably shot tho, and my tinnitus is there too. But a used Origin 20H is in the price range of some pedals.

IMO

Jason should get a cut of the Origin sales. Nobody mentioned modding these until he did one. Now you see tons of people offer their take on the mod.

UK labor costs more than Vietnam labor.

Couldn’t agree more about the Origin series. Amazing value, especially used.

The SV20 is a squishy hot mess too. Hated that amp.

Hmm, never had that problem with it. But if you want to get a solid and tight sound from it, just like a big boy plexi, there's a few things I do: Never run the bright volume above 8. Don't jumper channels or run the normal channel at all. Run the bass on 2 or 3.
