Listened to a few of the leaked songs and will say I like them better then the 3 releases.

Went back and listed to St. Anger last night which I haven't a long time, and I still find I really dig that album a lot. Could do without that fucking ever present snare though.

St. Anger will always have a place with me. That album was the conduit to getting back to heavy. There are some great songs on there. I wish they wouldn't have jacked up the snare though. But it was raw and is what it is.

Any great band, whether it be Zeppelin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc., etc. go thru ups and downs, get bored, get inspired again, etc.

Album leaked. Quite interesting album. Some very heavy, slow and melodic songs. Doesn't disappoint for sure. I like Kirk's solos.
This. And "Spit Out The Bone" is an instant classic. And yes Kirk has some very tasty stuff on here. The three singles are probably the weakest on the album.

Yep....heard most of it....buying for sure!! Really good and some really, really great parts throughout. Im over lars' love of his syncopated snare hits.... but i am really diggin James' vocals and melodies...a different approach and i like. I have yet to listen to spit out the bone....but this album is damn good.... you can see and almost feel their new attitude and confidence right now....it seems like they really enjoy it again... and with this album, they should.

Update....i cant stop grinning... AND 'now that we're dead' is such a groovy, straight forward monster...a lil outlaw torn feel towards end....but christ its good. Proud of my boys!! Respect

Dream No More feels like it's been brought from the Load/Reload sessions with a bit of modern metallica. Fantastic.

100% agree....load vibe but not so polished....love it. James really shines on this entire record!!!!!#!!

This record sound's vocals sound like it could have been produced by Bob Rock only a little bit more Raw, but production/arrangement wise sounds like Bobo Rock-Metallica. A lot of vocal harmonies and the type of reverb used on the vocals

Ive only heard it on my shitty phone here at work and it sounds great. Cant wait to get home with a bottle of red and really listen to it all

The production is definitely better than Death Magnetic and obviously St Anger.

James' vocals are really good, the way it's recorded is really kicking and the melodies he came up with are really beautiful and original. Confusion, Halo and Revenge have some really interesting vocal melodies that stick instantly.

Spit out the Bone beautiful thrash song.

Overall the tempos feel like Load/Reload era, minus the blues scales and bluesy stuff. Lars sure likes pure snare fills.

I think Dream No More has some Cthulu references in the lyrics by the way.

Man, this is exciting. I always missed the verb on the vocals sound that all of the bands used in the good old days. I want a record to sound like my heroes are doing it, not Jim Bob singing right next to me.

I have always seen it in snapshots and I don't think these last two records could have been made without the St. Anger phase/struggle. My $.02 anyway.

I agree.

I finally got hold of Hardwired...to self-destruct a couple of days ago. After listening to the album once-through in the car, I thought that this shows how 'The Presidio Sessions' in 2001 was the biggest piece of shit they ever put together. I'm glad they didn't officially release it as is. Even St. Anger was miles above it. It just sounded like some bad sluggish messy hangover, literally. In fact I reckon it was a hangover. They were burned out, James was literally hungover and in the depths of his alcohol abuse, Lars and Kirk stressed out about Jason leaving and awkward around James, and producer Bob Rock trying to keep them from falling apart. The thing is Bob wasn't a psychologist, so the managers had to hire one to literally get them all to talk to each other so their life problems don't get in the way of their work.

Now that they have their shit together, they've put some good music together again.

I'm very glad that this new album has some decent production. None of the brick wall mastering that ruined Death Magnetic. Through a loud good quality stereo it sounds awesome. The 'edge' in the guitar distortion is lost through computer speakers- that's why the 'AJFA tone' reworked versions sound better in comparison. I prefer the second disc's guitar tones. In fact Spit out the bone and Murder One sound absolutely brutal. I love the big guitar chord 'rings' in the middle and are wondering what amp combinations were used to get those sounds.

With all the tape marking the tone stack settings I figured the Wizard was on its own, but hard to know, since if they are reamping into the front end all those settings would be important for that too. Could be splitting the signal from the guitar to all three amps - IIC+, Wizard, and Diezel. The IIC+ has in the past been used in the center channel to thicken tracks according to older interviews on past albums.

It's great and growing with me on every listen...couple of songs I still don't care for..Confusion being one and Am I Savage the other.

"Dream No More" is so damn good. Should have titled it "Cthulhu Awakens", but I see why they didn't go that route. It's definitely my favorite track, if not the best song I've heard in a long time. The songs I didn't like are starting to grow on me, but some of them are still pretty boring to me. Plenty of good stuff to be had though. I'm pretty damn happy overall. Really digging this record.
