WTF...James is wearing a fucking Leadville, Colorado t-shirt at 4:57? Wonder if he was actually there, that'd be nuts.

I lived there from 2005-2013 and still own a home there.

The typical response I get from people when I say I'm from Leadville, CO is "Where the Hell is that?"
Just strikes me as extremely odd that he is wearing that shirt. Its a middle of nowhere kinda place. Aspen, CO; I could see him vacationing somewhere like that, its a destination for sure but Leadville, CO.....

I've been to Leadville. Lot's of 14ers in the area to climb.

Maybe he ran in the Leadville 100

Yep. My house sits damn near at the base of Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive the two tallest peaks in CO and 2nd and 3rd tallest peaks in the lower 48 next to Mt. Whitney in CA.

I miss sitting in my back yard around the campfire drinking with my wife and neighbors while we watched the headlamps of those poor bastards running the Leadville 100 as they tried to make it back down the mountain in the dark.

James in the Leadville 100 :hys:

Finally got to watch the video. Could only listen earlier.

Pretty awesome video. They have some really awesome gear and it does look like they're having a blast.

Trujillo is a great pick I think for them. I haven't bought anything Metallica in over 25 years but I think I'll be picking up this album.

That's what I'm talking about.

I loved the vocals, tone, playing, and lyrics. Didn't even mind the drums. My favorite of the 3 songs so far. No question.

\:D/

It's a shame they only seem to write riffs that pass the simple ratta tat filter of Lars' ability these days. Pretty "stock" Lars...pretty stock. Couldn't finish it. It doesn't sound meaty enough. I am liking James's vocals though.

In a way I'm thrilled to see Metallica make a real attempt at going pre-Reload, but they're kind of sounding like a tribute band of themselves. Their sound has gotten much better, but that song didn't hook me into the new album. I hope their other tracks are more inspired.

I'm still on the fence with the 3 new songs they've released. I need to listen a few more times to digest. Just the way it works for me most of the time. There are some songs/ albums I listen to for the first time and instantly fall in love but most of the time I've got to listen to them a few times through to know how I really feel about it.

Yeah, it is crazy how that works. :) I remember when the Black Album came out, I wasn't that much of a fan at first listen. Don't get me wrong, the production was phenomenal and the songs were tight, but it wasn't MY Metallica. In fact, "....and Justice for All" took awhile for me to digest. I definitely come from the Cliff Burton camp. :) I still remember only a handful of us listened to Metallica because everyone else thought it was too heavy, too loud, etc., etc. They were the Motorhead of their time.

With all that said, Metallica is one band I've always loved. I almost gave up hope between "Load" and "St. Anger" because it just seemed like the band was falling apart, too trendy, etc. Then "Death Magnetic" came out and I felt like they were trying to get back to what made them Metallica. I feel like after all of the drama, the deaths, the documentaries, the tours, etc. these songs are pretty impressive for a band in their 50's with a ton of money. They could have stopped years ago but still love it. I know this sounds so fanboi but just glad they are still doing this.

I'm really digging what I've heard off this album so far. Lars is still Lars and I get what the op was saying about the kicks. Really good riffs though and James has finally started to lose that twang off his voice he's had since Load and is starting to sing somewhat angry again. Not 80's Metallica angry but really good for these days. Would love access to all those different amps.

Boring. Nobody would give half of a damn about this song if it wasn't Metallica.

Yeah, this new stuff is the first Metallica I've really dug since 1991. I'll be buying the album. :)

I thought I read somewhere that James was a hunter. Maybe I'll see him up in the mountains next week when I'm on it. That would be crazy, talk about out of context.

Popped up in my youtube feed.

The kick drives me nuts in this song... freaking annoying as hell. Wonder if Lars mixed it.

Sounds great, they still rock

On the fence? WTF? What else is out there that is better in this genre? Stand on the fence too long and you will probably slip and fall and bust your nuts. Pick a side and be happy there is a good band putting out a record that is not electronica shit and roll with it. :)

I've been a Metallica fan since 1985 and I couldn't agree more with that. Meh.
Thought the guitar tones were at best uninspiring too........

I'm with you on the kick. On what I am listening on it sounds like it has digital clipping happening. There is an annoying "ting" there

Quite like it, it sounds like Iron Maiden in places. It's the first thing I've liked from them since MOP. Everything after that I'm not really that keen on. I like the less aggressive guitar sound, it also sounds like someone has actually taken an interest in mixing it too.
