A few weeks ago I took delivery of a Metropoulos Black Sun 100 watt. This wasn’t a donor amp, I bought it from Shea modded. As expected, he knocked it out of the park. He kept me informed throughout the entire process with pics and updates, which makes the wait fun.
Since this is a Metro, it’s a clone of a vintage Marshall, and had many vintage parts in it. Shea retained as many as he could to give it that mojo, and it’s got it in spades. It’s a very thick sounding amp, with a touch of sag. It definitely sounds more like an old modded Marshall than a reissue, or newer amp. The amp sounds huge, has a ton of low end, and hits extremely hard. It’s very percussive. The amp gotta great, fluid feel to it. The loop is top notch and very transparent. The noise level is ridiculously low.
The amp has the Black Sun Mod (voice switch), Resonance control, Old Man switch, Tight switch, and a two way gain stage switch. The BS off is a tad darker and looser, more of a normal Marshall Mod vibe, the Black Sun goes next level from there. It’s louder, tighter, brighter, more aggressive, and 100% killer. The Old Man switch gives you low to mid gain with a very thick voicing. Very cool with a boost also. The top switch on the front tightens, brightens and gives you another entirely different gain flavor. The bottom switch is a two way with two different type gains, one open, the other more compressed, and both are awesome. The Peace sign input is low gain, the Skull input is high gain.
I’ve had two Monomyth modded Marshalls and they’re both my favorite Marshalls to date. They’ve got unmatched aggression, an amazing feel, and the lowest noise floor of any high gain Marshall’s that I’ve had. My phone and tablet record like shit, otherwise I’d post a clip. I’ve gotta get a mic. Shea is The Fuckin Man and worthy of the hype and praise he’s been receiving in his short time on the scene!
