You want me to prove I can back my opinion? Do you even hear yourself? It’s called an opinion for a reason. ?

The old ones sound better. Fact.
Moron, you really don't get it, do you?

There's a difference between an opinion and an assumption. Look it up. You did the latter...without any base.

Look, I don't care either way if the older ones actually sound better or not. Just don't create bullshit like "I'm of the camp that the older ones sound better...without actually having compared them...hur-durr-durr". :gay:
We're living in a time with enough fake news as it is.

I don't have a problem with (almost) any opinion, as long as you can back it up.

And... the old ones still sound better. This is a very important thing.

I wasn't even going to get involved in this silly debate but I am not sure if your joking or what, but I disagree and I have first hand knowledge as I have the new BAD version that arrived a couple weeks back and it sounds exactly like the SLO's I have owned over the years except quieter and the loop is fantastic!

By the way, does anyone have either a BAD version...SLO or maybe even an original that they want to do a trade deal for my Diezel VH4?

I wouldn't mind having a second SLO... :D

Here's someone who's opinion I can respect!
You compared them, formed an opinion on that experience, not a mere assumption on regurgitated hearsay about the 'magical' qualities of trannies.
Hats off to you, my good man!

He left the Soldano facebook group too....

Why? I wouldn't be surprised if it was because he was expecting Mike Soldano himself to reward him for making the video.

You’re taking all of this way, way too seriously.

I heard soundclips, I saw the gutshots.

I just stick with my old one.
Period.
Happy honeymoon with the new version.

That SLO-35 might be interesting, but it's not cheap.

I'll admit I am now eyeing the SLO 30 , it's exactly the same layout but in a short chassis with a 30w power section . :)
For $2499 I think that's a fair price for all the same features you get on the 100w , I will be curious to hear how different the power section sounds to my 100w when opened up to the sweet spots .

Arguing with you over this is stupid. ... Sorry you can’t seem to handle my opinion. Have a good one!
Oh it's stupid, because you got called out on a presumptuous BS statement? Sorry you can't seem to handle my logic and reasoning.
Have a good one as well, with your DeYoungs.

You’ve got some issues, buddy. I will. I will have a good one with my DeYoungs. ???
I've had 3 SLOs. I've also had an HR 100+. And, I've played 3 SLO clones that had Classictone transformers and one had a pair of Mercury transformers. The SLO clones sounded like the HR 100, with a bit different midrange between the Classictone and Mercury. But, none of those amps had the 3D quality/bloom that an SLO with the DeYoungs have.

I do hope the new SLO transformers are wound to be 'HiFi' like the DeYoungs. I enjoyed that part of the SLO experience best, at volumes of 2 on up. The only other amp that does a similar thing is a Wizard.

I'm interested in the 30 too, but it seems it's missing the FX-loop switch on the back, which the big one does have. Which leads me to wonder whether you can switch on/off the fx-loop per footswitch on it, as you can on the new SLO100.

From vids I have seen on YouTube , Mike says if you are not using the loop on the SLO30 then it's the same as not having it .
He states it has a hard wire bypass , so I take it as the same as it switched out or not there when your not using the loop .

Well, I actually prefer having a footswitchable loop, it's part of my gigging use;
set up the individual pedals (that are in the loop) during a verse of a song on/off while the fx loop is bypassed, and then with 1 click of the fx-loop bypass switch turn them on during a song-change, instead of having to tap-dance for a bunch of pedals.

So I would feel it as a let-down if the SLO30 doesn't have that (to me) important feature that the big one has.
The big one just isn't for me; size- and price-wise. I've played it in the past, love what it does, but nowadays I prefer the smaller wattage heads, that still have big glass, big iron.

I’m in the camp that the new ones won’t sound as good as the old ones. Until I have the chance to play a new one side by side with an old one, that’s just my opinion. I could totally be wrong on that, but I think those original transformers do make a difference.

Please don't think I'm taking a shot at you, but I don't know why people think there's any magic going on in amplifiers, because there just isn't. Any decent engineer can reverse-engineer something, and I think it's entirely within the real of possibility that these amps are just as good if not better with quality-of-life tweaks.

Sure. Makes sense.

Except why then, can no one do a spot on replica of a 67 Plexi? I mean, there are nice copies out there, but as nice as the Germinos, Metros, etc are the original has a magic that isn't reproduced. Maybe close, but that last 5%, 10% whatever makes every difference in the world to me, when I'm ready to pay big money for an amp.
JP2C is another example..while it is a really good sounding amp it's not a spot on replica of any C+, when you play both you'll know.

I do hope that the new SLO DOES sound as good as the original...I don't own one now (had 3) and would like to grab another, but I won't pay 5K for one.
Lol
