I think the new ones look cheap. They look like kit SLO clones.

In what way? Except the corners it look the same.

Oh it's stupid, because you got called out on a presumptuous BS statement? Sorry you can't seem to handle my logic and reasoning.
Have a good one as well, with your DeYoungs.

Have fun replacing those radial electrolytics around the board with all that wiring , you will be doing a lot of unwring just to flip the PCB over for the repair .

I've seen this complaint a couple of times now, and I don't get it. Yes, it's slightly more effort to replace those than the old axials......only slightly to anyone remotely competent working inside an amplifier. It'll take a half-hour extra bench time for this compared to the old ones, on an item that needs replaced every 30 years or so.

For some reason, there's this huge fixation on filter caps in guitar amplifiers, that's incredibly overblown compared to reality. Like anything else they can wear out and need replacement, but it's not a common, regular thing to deal with. I don't see anything inside the new SLO that raises any alarms for me. It looks good. Right now, you're just coming off like you're looking for excuses to say how it's not as good as the old one. It may or may not be, but it's not lacking anything in build quality from a casual inspection of a picture of the guts.

The transformer is similar. There's nothing magical about the DeYoung's that can't be duplicated. Mike had the specs and design. Any competent transformer winder can build transformers to the same specs if that's the desire. I know Onetics, used in the clones, intentionally steered clear so they wouldn't sound the same. (I think that was a nice nod to Mike FWIW.)

I have my old SLO and don't see any way I'll go buy a new one, but I don't need to justify that decision with anything spurious. I can just hang onto it and enjoy it. I hope the new ones are just as good as it is, and in fact better. Why shouldn't they be? Why should I be offended or hurt if they are?

Classic Rezamatix meltdown over at Guitar Gear Forum.

Makes youtube video. Hypes up amp. Argues with people not liking sound of amp. Equates price to tone. Lists amp on Reverb for sale next day. :hys:

He left the Soldano facebook group too....

Lol
I wish him well.

Reza's ability to take great gear and make it sound like absolute shit boggles my mind. The guy has no ear for tone at all.

No , I'm just pointing out the differences that I see and before I spend $4000 on my next Soldano amp I am going to make sure it's worth every penny of it to me.
I want another SLO , I don't use or need a loop , so I am deciding which of the two that will do what I want it to do without wasting money .
If it breaks down I will not send it to BAD for repair , so I keep in mind what my tech will have to go through for repairs .
I can change cosmetics myself .

I'm sure the amp sounds fine compared to an original with the new upgrades..

the person that got everybody drinking the deyoung kool aid was Mike Soldano for obvious reasons(to sell amps)...its all bs the new ones are every bit as good if not better...

Cool. I thought you already had an old one, for some reason. I can get the hesitation. Like I said, I've got an old one and will just hold onto it. I like some of the new features, but none of them are worth me selling this one and buying a new one.

I'm so cheap, I'd wait for one of the new ones to sell. I'm sure in the next year or two, you'll be able to score them second hand for $3k or so.

Two 'issues' accounted for :D ; like only making up my mind about a preference when I'm actually able to compare two things, and uhm... people spouting bs and not owning up to it when confronted with it .

But keep beating around the bush, buddy. If you read back, my first post towards you was very neutral of tone:
"Personally I would not lead with such presumptions, when you haven't heard the new ones."

I was man enough to question my choice of (other) words later on. Were you?

You kept digging your heels and then I'm the one with issues?
As I said, an issue with unfounded BS, sure.

I did , a 2002 SLO but I had a financial situation a while back and had to sell a lot of my gear .
I still have my 98 HR100+that Mike and Bill went through and cleaned it up and put SLO knobs on it for me and I still love it as much as the SLO because it's slightly different in tone .
Now I'm ready for another SLO soon to complete my Soldano journy and have best of both models I like from Soldano .

Wow, mysogynistic and ill-informed!
An opinion I can't handle? LOL.
lemme spell it out for ya:
that 'opinion' is UNFOUNDED BULLSHIT AS LONG AS YOU HAVEN'T COMPARED THEM.

I don't have a problem with (almost) any opinion, as long as you can back it up. Which clearly you've proven you can't.
Now weren't you off to enjoy your 'superior' DeYoungs?

LOL btw, what are you people crying about? Is a cunt hair difference in mojo preventing you from writing the next groundbreaking album or something?? Maybe if you could score an original SLO serial #XXX from 1988 you can be the next Van Halen.. LOL

Old Soldano SLO had radial capacitors too.

Let’s hear your ground breaking music. Whip it out. This is an amp forum. We argue about super important things, man.

Misogynistic? Haha! You’re one of those guys.

I went and fondled my DeYoungs and thought of you. We enjoyed it. You know what’s interesting about about those DeYoungs? They don’t make them any more. That makes them more collectible right there.

You want me to prove I can back my opinion? Do you even hear yourself? It’s called an opinion for a reason. ?

The old ones sound better. Fact.

The 1st 2 pics are the best versions, because they have Purple Wiring to the Preamp Tubes.. Anyone who knows tone knows that Purple Wire sounds best..
