I'm having a difficult time accepting the fact that their new album is now fetching $200+ online now.

I fucking love it.

I'm loving it, and was expecting to be disappointed.

Something of note, in the liner the band (Adam) thanks Bogner, Diezel, Mesa, Rivera and Fryette.

I wonder what the specifics are. Diezel is obviously the VH4 and Mesa is probably the cabinets. I wonder what Bogner, Rivera, and Fryette gear he used. Rivera may be the K-Tre from 10,000 Days, but the Bogner and Fryette are a mystery.

I'm looking forward to a Baressi or Jones interview on the tone. I agree, his tone is killer on this album, but so is the overall production. Spent much of my workday with headphones on listening to the album. Now at home on my Sonos system enjoying it.

Check out the October issue of Guitar World magazine. Adam and Joe both talk about the amps used on Page 60-61.

Think I saw $280.

Still free on YouTube...

listened at work today and almost fell asleep about four times trying to make it through the whole thing. thank god i didnt, wouldnt want to be fired cause of this bullshit album

The instruments sound phenomenal.

The guitars IMHO are too loud compared to the bass and drums, making me have to strain to hear what they're doing. And a whole like of Adam Jones kinda just show casing his thing before getting back to the song IMHO, which with the super loud guitars makes it seem like he had a lot of influence on this album?

They were also thanking an individual person at each of those companies Peter, Reinhold, Paul, Steve and someone from Mesa.
So I don't think they would be thanking a person at Mesa just because he's used their cabinets for years.
I'm thinking he brought the Rectifier out again for some parts.. at first listen I was hearing at least four different guitar amps throughout the songs. Much of his syncopated open low E riffing is clearer and dryer than usual so I'm thinking I'm hearing a Fryette on some of those parts.

Seems like there were a lot of Wizards around as well

Check the last photo. I spy a Soldano in the back as well.

More from Joe Barresi - you can tell this is Adam related as the blueface and his Marshall are in the second photo. Deliverance also in the second photo.

I don't think we'll ever know what was actually used for what parts. Probably a lot of VH4 and Marshall but what else mixed in elsewhere who knows.

^ that's not "the" blueface VH4 in the Barresi pic. Looks like one of the reissues.

I have to admit that I'm having a hard time getting into this album. It just doesn't hold my interest for very long. Maybe it will grow on me.

I am not a fan of the style, but gave it a chance.....the sound production is stellar, but in the end the music does nothing for me.....but as stated im not into the band

im not feeling it at all... same shit all the songs sound like recycled riffs from years past...not worth the wait

Yep. They should have done themselves and their fans a favour and disbanded 15 years ago when their record was immaculate.

I don't hear recycled riffs I hear trademark riffs.

This album definitely isn't for the instant gratification and gimme gimme crowd.

Smart way to weed out the disloyal and disillusioned listeners though. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

7empest I think is going to stay my favorite after going through it a couple times.

..and Pnuema.

The whole thing feels very clinical though...not sure if I dig it or not.

Totally agree. Tool’s being ripped for sounding like Tool. Bottom line is, they’re doing their thing and at an extremely high level. What more could somebody want or expect from them?

You true Tool fanboiz just never disappoint! They could "§$&/ in your pants and you would smell chocolate, wouldn't you?
:D

I like it. Production is great. The cd packaging is great. I didn’t love the last 2 albums for awhile when they were first released. They did what they wanted on this album despite the fact that today, people have no attention span for something like this. Most people are not going to give it the time it takes to digest it. Justin took a bit more of a back seat which I don’t love right now but I like the format of the album. I’m tired of strict structured and manufactured songs. It’s personal opinion and taste. Many things these days, I feel I’m in the minority on to the point of disassociation.

Actually no, they have a number of songs that I don't like. Oh and nice cliche internet Tool fan insult. At least come up with something original.
