Just got this a few days ago and been on constant play, absolutely love it, but the 70's era Scorpions is one of my favourites so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

He redid 18 songs, plus there is a an extended new intro to Fly to the Rainbow. A lot of reinterpretation, and a more "jammy" feel to a lot of them. Really weird to hear him playing it with his Sky guitars. Not sure the amp, I'm guessing it's the Blackstar Artisan 100 (Plexi-like amp) that he's endorsed with these days, but who knows, he apparently still has his old Marshall amps. Definitely not quite as good as his original 70's tone... there's just mojo from those days you can't recreate

I actually never listened to Uli until this thread. Cool clip. I'd like to hear more, that was some great playing but that Egyptian scale went from super cool > annoying after awhile, lol

Looking forward to checking this out 'Tokyo Tapes' from Scorps is one of my favorite live albums of all time!

we'll burn the sky was one of my faves and uli deserves his place in the guitar hero history books

i dunno..some things are better left in the original form--lynch and yngwie tribute albums to their heroes were also pretty not good

Like a lot of older guys, their tone gets cleaner and if they try and play some of the glory days material it always sounds anemic and not nearly as tasty. Cream re-union sucked because of this, AC/DC's rhythm tone has been too clean for over 10 years now and now Uli. The tone he and Rudy got in the mid/late 70's is some of my favorite ever. So meaty, raw and singing all at the same time.

The one caveat I've noticed to this is Yngwie, who seems to be too saturated and has lost a lot of the beautiful clarity he had in the early 80's.

Holy crap, I've got to get this....thanks for the heads up

Thanks for posting. I forgot all about this. I am downloading this right now.

Awesome stuff, Sails of Charon is epic!! He just played here in a club... should have drove down to see it.

Roth is amazing. I like him even more as a player now than then.

I saw him live with gus g and he played his ass off, one problem though...

He had those damn blackstar plexi copies and was so loud and so piercing sounding I swear I wanted to rip my ears off or stuff something in them every time he played a lead especially. The other bands didn't sound like this.

Oh and his bassist was great also but I am pretty sure the PA guy turned him off at some point. It was a club and he brought an ampeg SVT with 8x10 cab or whatever they are, ...I think he himself understood at some point that he drowned everybody and lowered a bit ha ha. Rock n roll I guess!

Still, what an amazing player. I am looking forward to this thanks for posting.

Uli is one of my all time faves ( Scorpions era \,,,/ )

Having heard this I am digging it and glad he revisited these songs but I much prefer the originals.

"The tone he and Rudy got in the mid/late 70's is some of my favorite ever. So meaty, raw and singing all at the same time.". Exactly my thoughts

"The one caveat I've noticed to this is Yngwie, who seems to be too saturated and has lost a lot of the beautiful clarity he had in the early 80's.". No doubt. Alcatrazz is always on heavy rotation in my CD player ,some of my favorite tone. To me , Odyssey was the last Yngwie offering that had good tone from him but he was starting to use more and more gain after that.
Uli (Scorps) and Yngwie(Alcatrazz) Strat with boost into loud cranked Marshall = some of the sweetest guitar tones ever

Wore out Virgin Killer cassette tape when I was a kid. Think I traded Kill Em All for it. It was a good trade... Scorpions were great with Uli IMO

Huge Uli fan, own all of his stuff and this sounds damn good, but if I want to listen to Scorpions with Uli, I pull out the originals!!
