Ugh. Carvin Barf...oh look there is barf on the couch. Perfect.

Let me guess, Carl was busy, so you're filling in and leaving a stupid comment for him.

Good job.

Keep the headstock they put on!! Here's my spalted Ibanez J.Custom with 6 inline tuners.

Yeah i don't like the headstock they sent you, either. Looks like an Ibanez, but not nearly as good.

The one you picked out looks like a PRS sans cutaway, much better.

I didn't really pick it out, that is the stock headstock for that guitar:

You can get this guitar with the headstock they sent me, along with 7 other alternative shapes (ranging from a $10-$60 upcharge).

Me likey.

Nice Carvin! So with a return like this, will they on sell it as a factory second or something?

- It has locking tuners. I usually block my Floyds so they only drop the pitch (can't pull up) and I have no problems with tuning (my other Carvin doesn't have a locking nut either). This one did seem to hold it's tuning fairly well though (the string haven't really been stretched that much), even after pulling the strings sharp with the bar.

- And fuck ya'll, I like the 3+3 headstock. :D   :D

Like I said, the Carvin I already have (a DC127C that looks similar to this) has the 6 inline headstock, so I wanted something different for this one. No point in telling me to keep it, it's already in the process of going back.

- As nice as the Spalted top is on this, the top on the next one should look even better. I would post the picture I sent them for matching the new guitar's top, but I know as soon as I do everyone will say how much better the one I have now looks. ;)

Without even seeing the new one, I am already saying this one looks better . Lol.

Actually Carvin can probably beat this one.

Did you go for Stainless Jumbo Frets or ...?

Make sure to post new one with a Tone Report and curious if the

new Carvin tuners are better than Sperzels they used before.

I have owned a few Carvins in my day and they make great guitars for the money. I sold all of mine except for one and that is my Bolt T+. I updated the electronics and pickups much later on and replaced the shitty Carvin Wilky for a true Gotoh Wilky last month!! This guitar kicks ass!!

I'd get the pointy headstock myself. Also, I would have to get the locking nut. There's no reason not to. It will offer best tuning stability and if you ever had to sell it, good luck selling a Floyded guitar without a locking nut. Not going to happen.

They allow you to send non Carvin pickups and install them for you now?

Yep - it's a $50.00 charge though (at least that's what it is for 2 humbuckers).

Just a quick update on this - My Carvin rebuild will finally be done around the 13th of this month. It's a long story that I won't go into, but there was some major communication problems between them and I and it got to the point where I went on their forum and posted a long rant (that I've since deleted) on how fed up I was with Carvin and how shitty I thought their customer service was. Within 20 minutes the head of Carvin's sales department was calling me on the phone and profusely apologizing. He explained how hectic things were there at the moment and that my order wasn't given the care it should have and wanted to know what he could do to make it right. So I was able to get a few free options thrown on, plus change a couple of things I now knew I didn't like about the guitar (changes I didn't think the would or could make, but they are). I promised not to reveal what those changes are (though it's going to be pretty obvious when I post pictures of the guitar :D ), but suffice to say, this should now be my dream guitar. The perfect guitar for me.

I'm sure I'll update this thread (or start a new one) when it arrives.

Wow...so much cooler looking with the headstock they gave you. Sorry to pile on, and to each their own, but I really like the guitar in the pics.
To each their own on teh headstoch. However I play Carvins have owned close to 30 of them over the years and really personally don't like the look of that 3 on a side headstock on that body. Another vote to keep the inline!

Word of advice on building a Carvin. ALWAYS have the spec sheet sent to you on the order and PRINT IT OUT as well as save the file! That was if some thing gets screwed up you got proof as to what you really ordered. I built several over the years and had no issues as I always used the same rep ( who is no longer with them ) but know of others who have had screw ups on orders.
As for a Floyd with no locker why the issue?? They stay in tune as well as with a lock with the Carvin graphite nuts and locking tuners and are easier to change strings on so??? Had them both ways can tell no difference in tuning stability at all.

They do not use the Wilkinson VS100. They use a cheaper version of it. If it does not say Gotoh on it, it is a cheaper version. Now older Carvin's are equipped with the original Wilkinson since I had a few back in the early to mid 1990's, but I do not know what year they switched to the cheaper import version.

Hey guys, I read some very interesting info on the other Carvin forum. Apparently Carvin currently installs a "lower end" Wilkinson, the VS50. And it seems the popular replacement is the VS100N or VS401 as they seem to solve the exact issue I have. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Good to know as all the Carvins I have owned all came with the real VS100's. The Carvin site still shows the V100 specs so?? I know a couple Carvin reps let's see what I can find on this.
