This should have been directed at our resident Professor. :ROFLMAO:

@NowYou'rePlayingWithPower maybe you didn't get the memo but just so you know we're not allowed to make fun of big head with little arms any more. The new rules are that he still gets to pretend like he knows what he's talking about, but you can't respond because he's done with the back and forth stuff.

You can make fun of me all you want. I can’t stop anyone from embarrassing themselves.
Im just not gonna exasperate it anymore lime I have.

Speaking of white bread and butter, thumbpicker has pretty good time!
I actually think my timing sucks... I think it's my biggest downfall. There are people with worse timing but mine but I can hear a lot of problems in that department in my playing. I don't have a problem with speeding up or slowing down... it's more on a micro level. It can play with your head. A bit like wow and flutter on a stretched tape player.

Also on the subject of timing there's nothing like recording yourself... When you're in the moment you think it all sounds great but you play it back after you've recorded it and your perceptions get a reality check very quickly. In my experience anyway...

In some ways Hawking's own quote could be directed back at himself. He flip flopped quite a bit which basically proved he didn't actually know and know is the root of the word knowledge.
Perhaps that's why he came up with the quote. The more you know, the more that you realize how little you know and all that jazz.

I didn't get the memo, unfortunately. Until then...
That one's actually kind of funny.

You can stop yourself anytime you'd like.

A good player is always his own worst critic.

Agreed. My buddy is on the right path though. Getting out there in real life situations would probably speed up the process. One night at a jam another friend of mine screamed at the drummer who was blowing it: "TWO'S AND FOURS MAN IT AIN"T THAT EFFIN HARD". Sometimes just having someone to chew your ass out on a bandstand can provide the motivation you need if you aren't able to muster any yourself.

A lot of band leaders used to be hard taskmasters back in the day. If you weren't tight you got chewed out or kicked out.

Playing with other people is always an eye opener too. You can be hot shit by yourself, but playing with and off of others is a skill within itself

I don't have to worry about that except at church where it's too basic to worry about anyway. Think strummy strum snore...

I used to do sound for a friend’s church for a while until I taught someone within the church what was what. I kinda miss it some days.
The church I actually went to just had a small choir but the most bad ass pipe organ I’ve ever seen. One of those once they build the church around. It was killer.
my first time ever playing in front of people was green sleeves at midnight mass though lol

I am a harsh taskmaster. Nothing makes my blood boil like someone who calls themselves a drummer and can't count. Until I had four or five names of competent drummers on my phone there were many nights of rage. I was gonna blow out my left knee trying to help them feel the beat through the stage sub floor. I'm surprised my truck's dashboard is intact because it took a beating on more than a few rides home.

I actually got a dose of that again at a jam last night. Dude couldn't shuffle a deck of cards. Geez dude it's a blues jam and this is TX pull your head out your ass. Damn. At least it was a jam so it was just his self that looked like crap since it weren't my band.

There would be a higher level of excellence all around if more band leaders were still like this but everyone wants to be nice. Nice don't get results and so you wind up with mediocrity as the norm. I guess it makes it easier to stand out so maybe I shouldn't complain....
