I haven't been too pleased with the orange stuff I've used. Also there's a mills and a Diezel available used and I'm not too keen on buying new.

I would buy both, LOL. But, I have a bad habit of owning more cabinets than amplifiers.

I haven't played either of these cabinets. You've played the Mills and know it's going to sound great. Perhaps you can arrange a tryout with the Diezel owner? Diezels are also a little more common than Mills so there's more chance of seeing one again. I personally would get the Mills mostly to all the internet hubbub and curiosity on them, unless I could play both and make a decision. It's always awkward to meet people on Craigslist, try there gear, and decide not to get it though, lol.

Mills acoustics slant or Diezel straight for teh heavies?

Cheers
I've owned just about every 4x12 out there (including Diezel, Engl, Engl Pro XXL, Boogie recto, Bad Cat, Marshall, Egnater, Peavey, ad infinitum). I think the Mills sound the best.

But definitely try out the Diezel with your amp and see what sounds the best with your gear.

What about Orange 4x12's?, or an UberKab? Those are my favorite 4x12's.
I've not owned these, but I've played through them. The other guitarist in my cover band had an Orange 4x12. I thought it was better than a Marshall 1960, but not as good as the Mills, Boogie recto, or Diezel.

I played through an Uberkab once, and it sounded very different to me. Didn't like it at all with my gear.

I'll prob go with the mills. The seller was sponsored by mills and knows the cab well and seems to have taken care of it, and is in the city proper. The Diezel seller doesn't seem to know anything about his cab and is out in BFE. Plus the Mills sounds great with my Mesa.

I really love my Mills. It's a straight since I like those best. I also have an Engl XXL, 2 Marshall slants and a Diezel. The Mills is my favorite. Great for metal. They also have a more 3D type sound. They don't sound that great when paired with a beamy cab. I use mine live by itself and it sounds great. :D

there have been lots of variations of the diezel cabs

many different builders.

i have played a few different era's.

lets just say that I still own a mills!

What the hell is a beamy cab? And anyone want to tackle why it seems like a lot of you fellas prefer straight cabs?

I have a Fryette fatbottom cab it's pretty beamy, it's also a front loaded speaker cab, which tend to be tighter and beamier

Gah. What is "beamy"?

  Beamy is just a way of describing a cab that projects the sound right at your head. Kinda like a lazer beam pointed at your nugget. I don't like beamy cabs. The Mills has a very dispersed sound to it, fills the room with sound instead of just blasting it at your head.

Hope that helps

I prefer a straight cab because they seem to have a heavier bottom end hit (more bass is perceived). I also think they look better. That's just me.

Got it. Matamp cabs are like that. Saw high on fire and it was excruciatingly loud directly in a 3 ft wide area in front of his cab. Anywhere else it was quiet. Also my Matamp was like that.

I like straight cab better, but it's completely aesthetic thing.

Some dudes say straight cabs have more bottom end, but I don't buy that since with many cabs, the baffles are the same and it's mostly a lip that extends on top of a straight cab.

I wouldn't say that's accurate at all. Most slanted cabs have 2 piece baffles, the top baffle holding the 2 top speakers is angled compared to the bottom. Iirc, the "lip" you refer to would be something like the Mesa recto oversized slant/straight, which was still a 2 piece baffle iirc.

Most of the time if the baffle is one piece, but the baffle angles a little, those cabs are still referred to as straight cabs. Splawns straight cabs, and even my diezels have a slight angle to the 1 piece baffle.

IMO, the reason dudes think straight cabs have more low end is because they don't have 2 speakers pointed more towards their ears which feeds them more high end content, thus making them think they are bright. You could also argue that the reduced volume inside a slant cab could take away some low end, but I'm skeptical.

I prefer straight cabs simply because I think they look better, and my amp cases sit on top of them more securely due to the increased surface area.

Don't some slant cabs also have a VERY slight phasing effect?

Picked up the Mills today :) my Mesa is now a totally different beast. So much brighter, and so much more bass without getting flubby or overloaded. Thing is frigging huge! Very stoked.E
