I finally got around to trying out my Dragon Suits. Killer pickups that sound huge and sort of raunchy. They're exactly as described in a couple of the other threads: hefty lows, very thick mids, and slightly rolled off top while still being clear. Pretty hot too. IMO they're best suited for brighter, tighter, & thinner guitars.

Sweet! That's good to hear.
What guitar did you install them in?

A Jet Earlewood. The guitar naturally has more of direct/focused delivery with a sort of tele-like openness & bite in the top end, but it's chambered so it's got some air too. Really a killer sounding axe that sounds tight & composed no matter what you plug it in to, but a little more heft in its tone wouldn't hurt. The Dragon Suits did that in spades. It's heft and rolled off top end compliment this guitar's tighter, brighter, & open character very well.

Very cool, I hadn't heard of this model yet, try to post a clip when you can!

Not hijacking the thread, but....
I notice a lot of iffiness about the Afwayu. I have a number of Wade's pickups, all of which he personally consulted me on based on what I was after. He had suggested an Afwayu for me when I told him I wanted something to take the place of EMG 81's but I didn't want to worry about batteries in my touring guitars. It did take me a little while to get used to; hot output with lots of everything. I definitely had to be patient with finding the right height and also dialing in the screws for each string, but the payoff was there. The reward is that it has a very unique sound from any pickup I've tried before. It "feels" like playing through a compressor, but is very rich and beefy. I reserve it for really high gain sounds which is where it seems to shine, palm muted chugs are very thick and tight, moreso than anything else I've tried. It's also my favorite clean bridge humbucker, because of it's beefy sound it doesn't become too thin on clean, which in my experience is always an issue with bridge humbuckers, if you're like me and you automatically flip up to your neck pickup for cleans, then you know what I mean. It's great to have a full clean bridge sound, which is more present and woody than the chime-y neck cleans.

Wade is a magician and the most knowledgeable man on the planet when it comes to humbuckers!

Yeah that sounds a lot like my dilemma. My Godin is tight and bright. The upside is great clarity for playing leads with pick-squeals and harmonics jumping out with ease. The downside is that the guitar just needs a bit of help to get some low-end heft and chunk for my preferred hi-gain rhythm tones.
Great to hear it worked out for you man. Hoping it does the same for my Godin.

Have to say I agree totally with your Afwayu experience. I was having the same issues with my Afwayu bridge up until only a week ago.
I was finding it way too compressed and smooth sounding. Totally lacking the crunchy raunch and complex mid content that all my other Motor City pickups have.
The wow moment was when I dropped the pickup's height much lower than I usually go. It's a 6mm gap on the wound strings side of the pickup. That's when the Afwayu started behaving like my other Motor City bridge models. Totally changed the character from smooth and overly compressed to percussive and crunchy without going to mush or losing punch. And it made the Afwayu's mid's more pronounced and grindy which I love.
Like you said, it still has that easy playability like you're playing through a compressor, but just sounds more like what I'm used to hearing from my lower-output Motor City bridge pickups.

Angel dust is great too I have one

I have at least the AD bridge in 4 of my guitars!!! I have an underwound Afwayu that I need to check out in my Charvel CS, which has an AD. I wanted something a little thicker with less of the upper mid spike/strident highs. I had the UW Afwayu's before, but they were too dark in my Carvin Bolt + Alder. I sold them to my buddy and he installed them in his Jackson RR guitar and they sounded killer!!!

I think the afwayu could use a little open upper mid spike/strident highs but it might mess with everything else I like about them

Definitely!!! That is why there was the AD!!! And I mean was because Wade does not make it anymore as well as the Garuda which is another killer pickup.

I just bought a couple custom wind mcp neck pickups on ebay. On a whim I put the higher output 7.85 one in the bridge position of my les paul custom. Wow its great! Lowest wind Ive had was a 2nd degree bb but this sounds better to me. Im able to fly all around the board no problem with pick squeals everywhere. Maybe its an old regular black belt. Im starting to not pay attention to how high the wind is because some of the lower winds are killer. I however usually dont like low output gibson T-tops but I'm sure wades version is great

Yeah I got a 16K Custom Wound 50 mm one on Ebay last week for 60 bucks, but have not installed it. I love the 2nd Degree BB and the T Wrecks are pretty damn good!!

Ha yeah same guy! I bought a solution and these two others for cheap from him

Yep!!      I have a Solution, but never have installed it. I asked him what the 16K bridge was and he did not know if it was a A5 or ceramic, but he thought it might be ceramic. Oh well it a MCP so it is probably killer!!!
