These original 8 ohm versions from 1985-1990 are unlike any V30 that’s come after them. The 1991 and newer versions, that you find in the AV/BV cabs are far brighter. The 65s sound bigger and smoother and a great with cleans as well. I was a doe hard V30 guy until the 65s
Depends on the 65. There were 40 something versions lol....The first version T3120s have a greenback-ish top end. I've also had a cab from 1983 that reacted like you describe.I hate 65s. They don’t play well with SLO types of circuits at all and have an odd mid frequency with those styles of amps. They also have a massive top end rolloff that isn’t the true representation of the amplifier.
At least V30s don’t have a preference and work with everything.
I vote V30s.

T3120s are not dark…they are much like a high powered GB. The early 80s versions can be darker….but with a Marshall, pretty easy to turn up the presence/treble.EXACTLY. Dark as all fuck, and soft. I can’t stand these speakers, no idea how so many people like them.
I also have a mid 00’s 1960BV. Would I even benefit from getting the old ones?
YupAlso, the earlier ones were 8 ohm cabs, right?
Yes. It’s like they aren’t even related….I’ve had a 1991 BV cab, and it sounded like frying bacon in the high end vs my 1988 cab that has no harsh highs whatsoever.I also have a mid 00’s 1960BV. Would I even benefit from getting the old ones?
Very different from a 16 ohm cab. Not better of worse. But very different.
