T3120s are not dark…they are much like a high powered GB. The early 80s versions can be darker….but with a Marshall, pretty easy to turn up the presence/treble.

Yep. That's pretty much it. The G12-65's are killer. I once had a big stockpile of them around, just in case! Only blown a couple of them over the years though. All the 65's are a bit darker than the other higher powered Celestions, but not all that dark.....unless someone's lost their highend hearing (not surprising if that's happened to a number of us, I suppose. lol) But, yeah calling them soft and dark is a weird take that makes me assume the poster is confusing them with something else.....because that's not how they actually sound. I've got a couple of '79 cabs with their original G12-65's, which are the best speakers for the classic 2203 - what the amp was voiced around (or vice versa). They're all the best speakers with my SLO to date.

I've always disliked the peaky V30's I've played in Marshalls, but the Mesa ones have been better, so I'd believe there are some better ones out there, and that also might be tied to impedance. As to the two cabs, you really can't go wrong with either. The SJ cab has some collector value to it that a standard JCM800 doesn't have, so there's that too on its side.
