What about the Peavey Triple XXX?? 450 euros mint condition with new tubes. I think Gary Holt used one in a couple of records!

Normally I would agree with a general XXX/JSX but the VHTs he can get eat them alive.

Hands down, my choice would be the D60. I already know it reacts well to the Torpedo Reactive loads, as I've recorded it myself. It's a killer thrash amp, and I use it myself for that. Boosted on the more setting is tight, punchy, clear thrash heaven.

Fireball depends on the model. I have played both, and prefer the 100 to the 60 as it has more mids to cut through the mix. The fireball 60 and powerball both got swallowed up when I heard them live. Could have been user error, but the powerball was mine and I let my guitarist use it, mids were dimed. Didn't hold a candle to the Rev F dual rec my other guitarist was using. For recording, it may be different.

Right on dude! I ve been looking all over the net to find some nice D60 clips + torpedo! I love that tone! Funny you should say that about the ENGL fireball - powerball amps... Just today another person told me the exact same thing....

They have a bit of a reputation for that. My powerball and my other guitarists Blackmore certainly lived up to the stereotype, which is why they got the boot. He ended up buying a Fireball 100, which sounds significantly better than either of the other 2 we owned, to my ears. More mids for sure, still very compressed but has a nice grind and clarity to it.

Still, it's hard to match the punch, openness and clarity of a D60 or Pittbull. Both amps work wonderfully for thrash.

Hey man I see u got the XXX too! How do they compare -mostly as regards to recording? Which one is brigher? Fuller sounding? Thx

The VHT D60 guy hasn't answered back, so that leaves me with the Triple XXX head at 450 euros fully retubed, the 6505 plus at 500 euros, and the Laney GH50L at 300 euros.
From what I've read so far, the gh50 is a hot rodded marshall that could be easily boosted to do the thrash thing.
The Triple XXX would do the Exodus thing - maybe crunch channel + boost.
What about the 6506?

I will be, yes Marshally, but with a slightly different flavor. For me they are different enough from a Marshall to justify owning both.

If I were to find that laney at that price, I would snag it for myself, but I think they are cheaper on your side of the pond.

300 euros is a really good price! I m gonna test it this Friday and if it brings me joy, I'll pull the trigger!
