OK I'm not trying to duplicate the Slash sound and I don't own a top hat. But I've heard some really good clips
and I like allot of the features such as the self biasing and the attenuator. I own 2 Bogner Ecstasy's a Classic and a 101b
and I will be pairing it up with the 101b for gigs and getting rid of the Classic eventually.
So now that the hype has died down what do you guys think of the amp?

I think it's an excellent sounding amp. The amp also feels great, right out of the box. I have one for my personal collection. The power scaling works well, the tube loop also wonderful, bias feature is pretty cool. It's well laid out inside.

If you are looking for a good rock amp then the AFD fits the bill. It's not a high gain monster with massive amounts of low end.

I dont know , I didnt like it one bit . I think the previous Slash sig Marshall was a lot better sounding amp. The power scaling is a cool feature though. Marshall amps are bright by nature , but the AFD100 was unusable bright for me. Even with the treble all the way off , when I got the amp to band levels it would cut your head off.

Was it too bright for you overall or just in one mode?

I don't find the amp overly bright. The non-AFD gain mod can be bit top heavy but that is the tone of his Levi modded Marshall. When you dime the gain in that mode, it helps the peakness of that.

Different strokes for different folks. I prefer the AFD over the 2555Slash.

Mike

I have one and I really like it. As said already, the power scaling works very well and the loop is good, too. Regarding the #34 mode, I agree with earlier comments - it's very bright. Having said that, I find it works better in a band mix than solo practice. The AFD mode, on the other hand, is much fuller sounding and seems gainier. No, this isn't a high gain amp, but for G'n'R style stuff it's great IMO.

Ive got one in my house I took in as a trade and Ive been playing it all afternoon today its got some really great tones in it
playing guitar straight in sounds great and clean boosting it sends it into another level....
its a really great bit of kit

I dont find it at all bright in either mode  .....

Barzini called me when he got his and said that it was the tone he was always searching for. And he's no Slash fanboi and has gone through TONS of amps.

That could be due to overexposure to that Cali Mod. Or, perhaps you should remove the

Cool amp. It was just a little too vintage or old school for me. I thought 34 mode was a tad bright but the AFD mode could be dialed in as dark as you would need. Loop, power scaling and auto bias were all cool and worked well. It did take boosts well if you're wanting more juice.

The only thing I didn't like was the Slash cosmetics on the face plate but that really wasn't noticable from a few feet away.

Well gosh what am I to do here?

Guys I know that have always steered me right say it is a great sounding amp.

Some guys have the treble on zero and pics get posted of bleeding ear drums.

Barzini liking it would be a slam dunk but again others say POS...........................

Just to be clear, I never said it sounded "bad" - it's just too bright for me, and I like JMP's and 800's, which others would classify as tinnitus inducers......

Again, to each their own.....

I bet it would sound *killer* recorded.....

I'd like to check one out in person. I have seen a few up fore sale so I don't think that's a great sign.

Different Strokes and all that Scotty...Personally, Every clip that I heard of the amp was awesome IMO but I stopped going by clips years ago, good or bad. Ive never physically played it and I just cant really judge an amp unless IVe played it with my gear in my environment( or something reasonably close)

That said, your Fortin Cali mod still rates as one of the best Marshalls that I have ever played anywhere...

Weren't there only 100 AFD amps made for the whole world and it seems like Rig Talk has owned, seen or played 25% of them. I tell you, we are all lunatics. :) Going by how many here have already heard or owned the amp just on this forum, Marshall could get the impression that they could sell 10,000 of them. But I think half of their entire market in the world hangs at Rig Talk.

For those that are saying the power scaling works well, does that mean you think the AFD100 works well at low volumes?

I really wanna try one, can anybody explain the difference between the afd 100 & the jube 2555sl.
I own the 2555sl and its my favorite marshall but im curious how it sounds compared to the afd 100.

IMO the goods come loud no matter how good the mv is.

I thought the clips of the afd were pretty nice. I was gonna get one but was a bit nervous to buy before trying in person. It did seem a bit bright as slash's tone can be nasally with alot of cut and I was worried that that type tone couldnt be dialed out and would be to much. I think the clips in afd mode sounded better for my style. As said above, the fact that everyone that owned it had it listed for resale within the first few days made me quite skeptical. THe differance with the afd and the other amps that bounce around are that all the afd's seemed to go up for sale immediately with no honeymoon period and not like years later. I did once own an original silver jubilee 2x12 combo but sold it as I preferred my modded jmp and I would hope that the afd would sound alot better.
