For reference; I use a Quad Cortex with a Fryette PS100 most and favor EVH/Marshall type sounds. Also I have other cabs. One is an EVH 4x12 with the G12EVH's. Another is the Friedman 412/15 with G12H30's and Fullbacks. And a PPC212 with a Redback/alnico Gold.

My favorite combinations have been CV-75's/Manowars tied with 4x EVM12L's. The Eminence speakers were ridiculously good in my opinion, so much aggression but could do all the classic rock. Same with the EVM's, love them. It's nutty how much punch they give an already fat sounding Orange 4x12. I don't move the cab around so that's not a big concern.

For no good reason other than letting it get in my head that I'm screwing with tradition, I traded around a few stragglers and got V30's to get it back to stock. So that's where it is. Felt good to get it back there but isn't exactly making me excited to play it. I gave up the CV's and sold them. Let me say, I like V30's, I'm not losing anything by having a cab full of them. Hardly slumming it because of V30's. I do however tend to prefer some others to them is all.

I currently have 4 EVM12L's sitting around. If you can set aside that it's $1200 of speakers not getting used (I can't, maybe you can) and assuming you like EVM's, would you stick with the traditional Orange/V30's or switch to the EVM12L's?

Now I keep seeing the Karnivore's coming up. Lead me not to speaker temptation and such.. but am wondering if I don't want to sell the V30's and get some CV's and Karnivore's. Would appreciate some opinions on which direction you'd go. I have asked people outside of the internet who don't care about speakers and, as crazy as it sounds, they continued not giving a shit about speakers.

Yeah I used to be a V30 guy and just got a 1x12 with one in it and didn't blow me away. I have two of the NEO Creambacks in my Orange vertical 2x12 and really like them.

Depends if you're planning on moving the cabinet around alot.

12Ls are probably going to sound the best, but they are also going to make the cab an immovable object.

@romanianreaper That's where I am with it. Not exciting. I like them fine and that's all. Those Neo Creambacks sound great in the demos. I have had the M65's and didn't care for them, at least not compared to other speakers I've had at the time. I always choose the Neo's in the demos versus them.

@DanTravis62 I've had them in there before and it was both glorious and sucky to maneuver, yeah. It's on wheels but it bogs down harder than the V30's. With the votes leaning towards the V30's, I'm feeling like I just need to suck it up and find another cab. I'm trying to choose A or B but they're so different.

I'm glad no one is voting for the Karnivore/CV's since I have to buy those.

Fair enough. I'm invested in this thread because these are among my favorite types of speakers. I have a v30 4x12, an EVM12L 1x12, and a 2x12 with scumbacks (they are blackback style)

IME i need and use all three for different stuff

How does that 1x12 sound cranked with the EVM? I've never done that.

I have a Peavey 2x12 I've had shoved aside to sell but I may just stick two of the EVM's in there. It won't be 4, but it's open/closed back optional. I can't imagine it won't sound awesome. It just won't be 4x12 awesome.

I have all the cabs and speakers you listed so I'm wondering, is this cab for blasting or recording?

I just put mesa 16 ohm v30's in this Orange as well as mesa caters... sounds really good and is easy to move now.

@Klauth It's mostly for blasting. Might I just be smarter to stick the EVM's in a 2x12 so I can crank the two harder as well and leave the V30's in the Orange? I love having casters on it, it is so much nicer to not have to walk it around. lol The thought of rocking the 4 EVM's is always exciting (to me) but 2 sounds huge, for sure.

@Nigel I bet they would. I watched a video on all the V30's and theirs a bigger difference than I expected. I've never tried the Mesa V30's.

The T4416 would be an upgrade from stock while preserving the 16 ohm vibe. I've got two in my Zinky 2x12 and they sound better than '93 UK V30's. You'd probably be the owner of one of the best sounding PPC 412's ever made.

It sounds huge. It's a super oversized cornford cabinet, with the convertible back.

Honestly I don't even feel like im missing much, when I need that sound

I'd like to find some of the better V30's. I will need to sell some of these first.

I had a second PPC412 a couple years back but sold it since I liked the EVH cab better. I'm about to just suck it up and buy another 4x12 to stick the EV's in. Might get something with speakers I can resell and off-set it. Another EVH cab perhaps.

You haven’t likely ever had an authentically genuine V30 experience, barring 80’s Marshall or Rivera amps/cabs etc.

I have been liking the pair of Karnivores I got the other day. Darker than a Celestion, which sounds great to me as I find many Celestions have a nasal fizz that drives me crazy.

Try out a V30/EVM12L combo in an X pattern. They work quite well together.
