Ozzy died…

Ozzy's run with Sabbath in the 70s alone would be enough to make him a legend. But then you look at his run in the 80s and how he became one of defining metal acts of the decade, adapting when so many of his 70s peers could not.

Between 1970 and 1995 he recorded fifteen studio albums. Not all of them were great (though many were) but all of them had great songs. Thats a fucking run.

Someone made a memorial listing. https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/msg/d/albuquerque-am-iron-man/7867841147.html

I nominated it for Best Of.

Seen Ozman/Sabbath in a Last Show with Godsmack, Motley Crue.
Godsmack was pretty loud but once Sabbath hit the stage the ear pounding was massive.

Ozzy was drowning himself with bowls of some voodoo concoction that was steaming hot.

Kinda felt bad for him as his showmanship was limited. Knew he didn't feel 100per cent, but he hung in there.

(Sharon was probably stage left with a bullwhip.)

I did get to see Ozzy with Black Sabbath at the Nassau Coliseum, Long Island, New York, in 1978. Van Halen opened for Black Sabbath.

My favorite Ozzy, besides the early Sabbath stuff, was the Speak Of The Devil album, live with Brad Gillis. I always loved that album.

I don’t think for a second that Sharon’s been the one pushing him out on the road all these years. It’s all he’s ever known, dude went from nothing to getting mass dopamine rushes playing onstage and spent a good part of his life trying to maintain that dopamine rush offstage. Seeing how happy that dude is when he’s onstage, even when his body started failing him, said it all for me. You can’t fake that shit, especially when you’ve already got a mountain of Fuck You money to sit on.

One thing has definitely stuck out in the last couple weeks since that farewell show; there’s been dozens and dozens of bands and musicians sharing their experiences with both Ozzy and Sharon and not even Jake E Lee had anything bad to say. While yes, there were absolutely some wrong-doings in the past with album credits and royalties, the fact that Ozzy and Sharon gave so many bands a fighting chance with the Ozzfest tours I believe has gone a long way in making up for that.

Pretty much every metal band that’s able to fill an arena in 2025 got their start on an Ozzfest tour. It doesn’t matter how much people here think Slipknot or Lamb Of God sucks, those guys keep metal alive and inspire kids to pick up instruments…while Linkin Park inspires kids to pick up pillows to cry in or something. System of A Down gets to play one show every 3 years and collect their paycheck, Disturbed gets to grunt all over the world, Godsmack fuckin’ retired before Ozzy did, Metallica is still dominating the metal world….there’s a lot of music we get to enjoy and a fuck load of people that have solid careers as a result of the legwork Sharon and Ozzy did.

Well said.

I think you can be critical of what Sharon/Ozzy did and at the same time pay respects to what he accomplished in his career. When he passed what I remembered was the fact had it not been for Ozzy, my life as a guitarist would not have been the same because of Randy. From that point we all looked to who Ozzy would bring next. Brad, Jake, Zakk, Joe - all incredible players playing incredible music.

So yeah, I hate what they did to people in fact in the end it made me turn against Ozzy because he knew what was happening, Sharon didn't operate in a vacuum. He could have stopped all of that afterall you pay people what they've earned and it's not like there wasn't enough money to go around.

Still I look back on that time in my life when I first heard Blizzard, then Diary and for me it was life changing, that I will never forget and I thank Ozzy and Randy for that.

RIP.

Bummer, but not unexpected given age/lifestyle and his push to do the final show.

I actually just started his autobiography last weekend. Only half way through it but a decent read if you want to hear about the quantity of drugs he's done.

She kept him alive for as long as her greed did. Once she realized he wouldn't be able to perform anymore and bring her the bread, she pulled the plug and let him fade. Which is exactly what happened since he died two weeks after his final show. She had no more use for him after his final performance
