Need to make sure I understand PPG vs PP.

IVe got a couple small items n CL...and whilst small items, I still don't want to get stuck by a scammer.

If I demand PPG...I get the money in my acct, buyer gets the goods, and we're done, correct? He can't roll back to PP and claim I sent broken shit, or he never got it...or whatever scam is the hottest ATM ? :scared:

I usually do cash, face to face only deals on CL stuff but I got a potential buyer few hours away.

Thanks for any feedback!

Well, when someone "demands" Paypal Gift for something I may want to buy I run the other way as it most likely is a scam. If I'm selling and I strike a deal I present the option and assure the potential buyer I'm not a scammer, offer to talk on the phone, give Feedback profile info, etc. If you flat out a demand the gift option you scare away potential buyers.

Correct, a gift is a gift and they cannot file a claim.

I believe they can do a chargeback on gift cant they?

I guess, if they use their credit card. I didn't think of that and have never had it happen.

Good call, I guess the only safe way is cash.

Appreciate the confirmation.

@Danyeo. I get what you're saying. Not looking to be an asshat, and "demand"...even though I said demand   And run folks away. I really am just trying to make sure when/if I ship something I don't get scammed. It's happened to me a couple times before...folks tend to say the right things and take them at their word only to have them try to get over on me. But...what you said man....noted. Appreciate the input.

By "small" items do you mean inexpensive? If they can meet in person and need PayPal for something inexpensive, I'd say no deal. Just doesn't make sense and makes them seem flakey.

But I've done PayPal gift for an in person transaction before because they couldn't get to a bank that night to pull the cash and Insure didn't want a check. I always do regular PayPal for online transactions, but in person with no shipping confirmation, I insist on PP gift. Way too easy for the buy to claim they never received the item. Hard to prove to PayPal that I handed it to him.

EDIT: but I never thought about a CC charge back with PP gift... PayPal charges the sender a fee if you use a CC for "gift" payments, for whatever that's worth.

Id rather have an i person cash deal, but some folks contacting me are over a couple hours away...it's just too far to drive, even halfway, IMO for such a small $$ amount. And by inexpensive I'm talking about stuff less than $100.

my motto is "dont paypal gift with anyone but a bro".

Just save yourself some hassle and avoid the paypal gift.

For a local deal, you should never accept standard PayPal. It's a common scam to pay via PayPal, meet in person to collect the item, and then file a claim stating that you never received the item. PayPal will always side with the buyer here as there is no evidence that the transaction actually occurred (tracking #'s etc.) I only accept cash for in-person transactions. If shipping something, standard PayPal is fine as the tracking number, and photos / videos of the item before and after packing should be sufficient evidence if a claim arises.

Cash only. They can charge back the credit card and there is nothing you can do at all. PayPal gift is not safe at all for sellers. Anyone who takes it from a stranger doesn't understand how it works and is a fool.

I question how common the charge backs are on local deals, Most people are spooked from what they read on internet forums. For shipping I see it because it's hard to track, or the item might get damaged in shipping or might not be as described and the chargeback may the the buyers only recourse. I've never had an issue. For local deals, it's quite simple. First, you have correspondence via email or test confirming meeting, second, most police stations have a place where people can conduct a transaction in there parking lot, which is usually recorded via CCTV. You also can get a their license plate or even video tape the transaction. If you are super paranoid, make them present ID that matches their paypal account and sign a form that states they have inspected the item and accept custody of it with no guarantees implied.

That's the best way to do local with a credit card. Put it up on reverb and do local pickup. Sure, there's the fee but whatever. Make the buyer pay extra to cover Reverbs cut if they can't pay cash.
