I just watched this and surprisingly I actually liked the 6505 better in this vid. I wasnt expecting that. What do you guys think? Guitars only comes in about 1:30 into it.

Both do sound aggressive and would probably mix well in a band mix but considering the cost difference of a 6505 vs a Mark 2C+ it was quite revealing to hear this.

I don't regret selling my other high gain amps (which included a C+) because I just preferred a 6505 (personally I like the 6505+ but the OG is great too).

Ya, bumping up the low end, low mids and that 750 slider just a hair would really fill out the frequencies and make it sound huge.

While the 6505 seems to fare better here (especially the EL34), I do hear that inherent honky, almost gurgly mid-range that you almost can't dial out.
However, while the 2C+ sounds too scooped here, I do hear the potential that it could be improved with a much sweeter mid-range, that won't need to have that honkiness.

I mean with a 6505 going through a V30 the mids are up way too high imo. I won’t put it above like 2.5. Just my taste though there.

How did he use E34L's in the 6505? (Sounds great, BTW) I thought 6505 was a 6L6 based power section. Did Peavey add a feature so that you can use either type of tube like on the Triple X and JSX?

I've played 5150s/6505s/owned 5153s. Sorry, but in the room it's simply no contest. Unless there's something wrong with the C+. 6505s don't have anywhere near the clarity, 3D/Richness, feel of the C+.
This reminds me of the clip that showed the 6505 sounding 'just like' the SLO. Haha that's another laugher....in the room the SLO wipes the floor with any iteration of the 5150 amps...thump, articulation, feel etc.

It doesn’t help the 6505 had the mids jacked here either. As you Jack the volume you don’t need to crank the mids like that as the amp tightens up and sounds better with the mids lower.

Overall I don’t like the comparison at all. I wouldn’t run either.

I have owned a couple 5150's over the years (signature, 5150ii, USA 6505) and have played a 2C+ HRG a few times.
Comparing the amps when you actually play them in person, the 2C+ has all the tonal qualities you mentioned....and is also one of best feeling amps I have ever played.
That said, the 5150 is a modern classic and can of course be made to sound killer! Plus it has the track record of being used on countless awesome metal/hardcore/punk/rock albums. I think that is what the OP was getting at for the most part.
For me, those intangibles you mentioned matter alot and it is one thing to eq and record an amp to get a particular sound and quite another for an amp to have next level punch, clarity, feel and amazing tone while pushing air out of your speakers. I could make my old MKV SOUND sound similar to a MK2C+....but I would never say it moved air, punched or had anywhere near the feel of the real deal HRG I played.

Agree....this isn't to take anything away from any iteration of the 5150 amp line, but a C+ and 6505 are VERY different amps and totally different tones. Neither one will sound like the other.
Which means, of course, that we all need one of each.

i actually preferred the mesa here, and im a 5150 fanboy. i think both could be dialed closer to each other, but combined would be crushing!

Both are great live if set up properly. Set up for the room while playing with the drummer . Focus on the cymbals that can eat the highs on your guitar up

The 6505 fit the music better to me, but that Mark sounds really unnatural here, like it was dialed in with somebody's eyes instead of their ears. It's way too scooped and hollowed-out sounding, with way too much low-mids dialed in.

That's the worst C+ clip I've ever heard. And that's the best and worst Peavey clip I've ever heard because those amps are garbage.

Yes, that feature is included in the newest 6505s that got the Invective transformers. You just have to have EL34s that are in the correct bias ballpark since it's not adjustable.
