Peters vs Diezel vs Engl vid

You've got some killer metal chops!

Peters was my favorite. The Engl SE was second place for me. I don't know why but I just can't get in to the Diezel sound. I know they are well built amps but they just don't jive with me. I played a Herbert extensively a couple of years ago and the high gain was just too compressed for me. I owned an SE for a couple of years. That amp is really compressed too but I liked the tone overall more than the Herbert. Nothing wrong with any of the amps at all. My tastes have just really changed over the years.

Wow man! Thank you. It means a lot coming from you because I enjoy/admire your vids/clips and playing.

Yeah, I guess the Diezel sound is not for everyone. It is nice to have many tonal options on hand. I find myself smiling while playing my current setup and that's all that really matters. :D

I liked the peters the best. It just sounded really good and chunky. Nice low mids.

Right on man. "good and chunky".....man I'm hungry.

For me on that Vid Tommy....
the ENGL shined!
Just sounded CRISPER then the other amps.

Hey dudes, I never did a comparison on my maps. So here it is. One take. Tried to play the same riffs and switch between the maps. Order of amps on vid.

Peters Hydra
Diezel Herbert CH3
Engl SE EL34 CH3
Diezel Herbert CH2

I dialed them all in as close as possible. Video is kinda hard the tell the differences but whatever. Too lazy and brain dead for clips....

Lemme know what you think.

Edit: All 3 amps were being played thru the Engl and Diezels cabs to make things even across the board. I use an Egnater SS4 headswitcher to switch, via midi, on the fly between the 3 amps. Just so their is no confusion on one mp being closer to the camera or anything. They were all going into the same cabs equally.
From the clips it's a coin toss between the Peters and the Engl, which do you prefer if you had to choose and why?
oh and thanks for posting the clips

It really depends on my situation I would guess. If I were in a cover band I would pick Herbert or Engl because of the midi ability and million tones on tap. For my current situation it's all original band so Hydra wins. It's like showing up in a big block camero that's built. It cuts through a mix easily and usually shits all over whatever the other guitarist is playing through. Kinda not fair really. Don't get me wrong, the Hydra is versatile but, you have to fiddle with knobs and shit. Straight up no bullshit the Peters is my go to amp. Thanks for listening bro.

Damnit, I still haven't eaten. I'm fucking starving. Leaving work now to eat before I kill people. Cereal never seems to fill me up. :aww:

I really like the subs for different reasons. Puts the 4X12 up where I can hear it and rounds out the lows in a mix. Is it totally necessary live? No because of the PA but for a stage mix it's cool. Some bands use them live like, Deftones and I thought Fear Factory did. Not too sure but they work for me. Add a 3D to your sound and allow the dialing of an amp to be set on "cut" due to subs handling the lows. Thanks man.

Thats the same problem I have. I eat a bowl of cereal, and then I find myself in the kitchen right now munching on things so I can fall asleep without an uncomfortable stomach...

The Hydra sounds nice!

There's a fourth amp that would fit nicely in that bunch -- looking forward to getting you a demo unit to play with.

I love that Hydra too.

my vote? keep them all!!! and run them at the same time!!!

the engl to me has a certain mid/low mid snarl or burp...which i love

the herbert is so fuckin tite sounding, i loved it.

the hydra sounds really clear and big sounding.

i was really liking the sound of the soldano and vht ultra lead in your other clips...your playing really lends well to this type of sound too man!

shit, you can't go wrong with any of those 5 imho!

i love the sound of all 3. yeah, thanks for making me want each of these amps! hahha

:D I can't see getting rid of any of them unless something comes up. I can find something good and or great in all 5 amps. As is stands now these 3 seem to really do it for me. I have another Peters on the way to round things out....or something like that.  Thanks for checking out my vids man. I crack myself up with my laziness, in one video I am tuning my guitar halfway thru or something. In another I stop a couple seconds in because the camera is sliding across the pedal board case. I don't like doing more than one take, I don't care enough. I think it gets the idea across. Thanks for the comments man.

I am biased, so you know my answer. You make me want to try out the SE more than I already did. Maybe I should go for a ride to Colorado this summer.

James Peters made a combo amp for me that is the best sounding Marshall/Vox amp I have ever heard....it's so killer, I gig with it every weekend. Muscians I know that hear it say it sounds like a Vox because it uses EL84's but it has a real old Marshall flavor to it., it's a great great combination. Good to see him getting props. I'm making an album now and it will be all over it... that and an old Marshall.

Sorry I missed this earlier Tom. The Hydra sounds very good. You got the right hand attack for those riffs. Very speedy.

I'll have to check this out tomorrow night mate when I get to hear it through the hi-fi stereo. I'll crank it up!
