It's going to be a great amp but my initial thoughts are it's not going to be the same.Close but not the same. Hope I am wrong. The very high production Mesa will be doing on these is somehow going to have an affect. I have to think the amp is a different design than an original. It has to be if they will sell many thousands of them from a production standpoint. Hope I am wrong as I said. Honestly I don't care what John says. He makes royalties. Dealers are preordering the shit out of the on the hype alone.
I am not sure exactly what resistors and coupling caps were used in the original. I assume Orange Drop. Not sure what series. Polyester, 225P. They can't source those now on the scale they need. The old parts they cannot source now will make a big difference regardless if they reverse engineered the 105.suhrimmetal":1x64a3bp said:glip22":1x64a3bp said:Sounds nice. Agreed.... and with that being said, JP made the V:25 sound killer... and most were left uninspired when they got their own hands and ears on them. However, the JP2C... damn it does sound goodLooking forward to more 'different' in room demos/clips to get a better picture..... but I am secretly starting to save.

Trust me, they have enough NOS parts to build anything. That's all I can say.

He's endorsed and making royalties on the amp, and getting publicity, so no. Part of the deal I am sure is that he uses the amp live and talks it up. I don't trust his opinion at all. He accomplished his goal. To sell thousands of amps and in the process get some major publicity for Dream Theaters new release. Or do I have that the other way around. I don't blame him.Random Hero":6jiqcd5x said:glip22":6jiqcd5x said:Sounds nice. I want an opinion of someone who has a good 2C+ and the new one next to it.
You mean someone like John Petrucci...? I agree man, that would be ideal.
It would be even better if they hadn't, when designing the amp, used the input of some chump who never used a IIC+ for basically his entire career.

I will wait for the real word to come out after release. It won't be hard to get one if it's that good. His demo did nothing for me, other than it having great features. I did not hear that raw, harmonically rich tone.
If you look online you will see boatloads of dealers pre-selling these. That means each dealer has on order many amps. I would guess Mesa has orders for a couple of thousand amps. Time will tell.
I have one, and not based on Hetfield or JP tone. Like a lot of us here on RT I just want to try as many top shelf amps as I can, and as I've slowed down my amp flipping I've decided that the 2C+ will never leave. It has the low end tightness I like, the upper mids when dialed in like a Marshall and most importantly to me the clarity of an SLO. When I slave it into a Strategy 400 its unreal. I've had many modded Marshalls, Mark 3s, SLOs, stock Marshalls...to me the way I set up the 2C+ it has a little of every great amp I've had rolled into one package. Gigged with it last night and some musicians came out. They all asked me what I was playing through. One of them also has a regular Sturgis gig as a sound guy. He's run for some heavy hitters over the years. He said my tone was the best he's ever heard. Not my playing(Shiny_Surface":ne7lk5yg said:Best to assume this amp won't sound/feel like the original imo. Even if it was an actual reissue it wouldn't sound the same. It's a pre-wired take using their current construction methods based on his preferences. I would hazard a guess most 2C+ owners don't have them because of Petrucci...![]()

No doubt the Mk V is a great amp on its own merit. Its just not a 2C+. Looking forward to someone here who has an original A/B ing the two.![]()
