Played a JCM 900 at rehearsal last night

Didn't Nuno record the 1st extreme album with a 900 and a rat. I dont know which 900 but I liked that better than his ada tone from what I remember.

I bought a 4100 new in the early 90's. I was eventually able to make it sound decent by throwing some decent tubes in it and running an MXR 10 band EQ through the effects loop to boost the low end. Then I bought a Rockstah modded 2203  and a Voodoo modded 2204  and very quickly sold the 4100. Good memories, but I don't miss it.

had a dual reverb around..say..1993/94...hated it. it sounded muffled with chords, and definitely too squirmy when soloing.

it did fine for the covers....but i still hated it. i knew nothing about tubes, and nothing about amps (still really dont!). it was 390$ at pianos n stuff in pittsburgh. i traded it for a vintage sg that i refinished.

Maybe she's born with it ? Maybe it's Maybelline Dave ? Dave Navarro...

I had one I got with a halfstack that the guy would not just sell me the Vintage30 Marshall cab. I sold the amp and got the 4x12 for cheap. I felt so bad about it I offered to buy it back a few days later..... best way to use one is sell it....

Sold my Stiletto last month to a guy that had two 50 watt 900's. Now he is running the Trident and 900 half stack each with a PRS. :) Believe it or not he actually sounds pretty good with this rig....

I have a 900 DR that sounds fantastic... but its been changed quite a bit from stock. :D

Doesn`t sound too bad if you ask me.

Man that guy is incredible. :m17:

And the tone is fantastic.

I wouldn't buy one, but I did use one at a gig (rented backline) and it sounded great. Granted, the MV was on 7. I had no issues with it. Snake Sabo used it right after me and he sounded great through it. Tube amps come alive at higher volumes..... go figure.

Yeah, Man! No Yngwie as we know it without him and Blackmoore. Tokyo Tapes!!!!!!!!!!

I had a 4102 (100 watt 2X12 dual reverb combo) for awhile. It did sound pretty good once you got the master past like 2 or 3 o'clock but that's really loud. More of an issue to me was that it was unreliable and literally cut out on me intermittently at gigs, had it in being fixed repeatedly on warranty, all of the bs just made me dislike it even more. They are definitely not the warmest sounding marshall either and the clean channel was pretty weak, but as said they're actually not terrible sounding if you can crank them. I'm sure I could dial it in better now than I could when I had it, too. But, as said, while you can certainly get decent sounds out of them there are just so many other better options right now I don't regret selling it at all.

Okay, I uploaded a couple parts from a song we recorded in late 1991 or early 1992. Guitars are all JCM900 dual reverb 50 watt head. Pickup was SD JBJ in my Kramer Baretta. Not sure how it was miced. I recorded a left and right track. Bass player was taking recording classes at the community college. Now, I ain't saying this is a super killer tone. But, I was always happy with it live. I never thought my amp sucked or was the worst Marshall.

I have another that I have to transfer from a cassette.

So there is a 334 page thread about the JCM900 over on the Marshall forum. Apparently John 5 says his album The art of malice, is pretty much all 900. I listened to a few tracks and it sounds as good as any other amp on record.
