Played a Mark V and an Electrodyne today

I really hope the Mark V sounds dam good. I have the head and a cabinet on order with Sweetwater without trying one first. If Petrucci is touring with three of them, they must be pretty good. Plus it helps if you can play like him

You can always return it right? I was joking earlier when i said it sucked, but i wasn't happy with it. I like the Mark IV's lead channel better. The V does have a better clean and middle crunch channel though. But the 3rd channel of the V was just a letdown for me. I've owned a shitload of Boogies including a pair of IIC+ heads and the V did have my least favorite lead channel of all the III's, IV's, and IIC+'s i owned.

But of course everyone likes their own thing so i hope you can find some use for the V.

however I didn't care for the electrodyne at NAMM but just shot a concert for country singer Jason Aldean this past week here in Fort Scott, Kansas, and his gtr player had a racked up lone star and electrodyne, and I watched him soundcheck with it and it sounded great!

I thought the v was a cool amp when I owned it, after about the 2nd week I really found some awsome tones, it took me a little longer to get the hang of the amp because I never owned a mark before. There's plenty of nice tones in v but you really need to spend some time with it to appreciate it, I'm not the type that can play a alp for 10min and judge it, I need to play it in my own home with my guitars and cabs and spend about a month fine tuning it.

I haven't had an opportunity to demo an Electrodyne yet but after demo'ing a Mark V locally several times I decided to buy one. I purchased a like new 1x12 combo from a trusted TGP forum member for an excellent price. FedEx says Monday is going to be a happy day (given my anticipation of its arrival my weekend is likely to pass more slowly than normal - not a bad thing at all). I find the Mark V to be extremely versatile, toneful, and expressive - a great next generation amp for the Mesa Mark series! I like the clean tones in the Mark V more than from any prior Mark series amp. I was able to dial in sounds that appealed to me from each channel and all modes. Channel 2 offers up some great verge of breakup to medium gain classic rock tones and channel 3 is just bags of fun to tweak and play through ! It looks like a complex layout but it's actually well laid out and intuitive to use. Given that the control layout is the same for each channel once you familiarize yourself with the channel layout you only need to be able to see the position indicators on the knobs to know where the controls for any channel are set.

I'm no longer gigging. I do get together with friends to jam occasionally. I'm mostly practicing or working on projects in my small home studio these days. My current amp is a Fuchs ODS-50 combo (hand tuned and a few factory mods - versatile and soulful amp). It's been my only amp for the last 4 years and find I can dial in great tones for any project I've worked on since bringing the amp home. My studio is small (8'x10' with a small storage closet) and I have no room for storage outside this room. I hadn't really planned on getting a second amp but after spending some time with the Mark V I came to the conclusion that It is something that will see enough use to justify the cost and the floor space it will require.

This is my first Mesa amp in more than 20 years. I'm glad I took a moment to sit and demo the Mark V (I was in the store just to buy bass strings). I believe it will be an excellent studio amp!

I have got my Mark III, IV, V and Triaxis out today. Setting up my rack and A/B/Y'ing them 2 at a time.

To be honest, I haven't given the Mark V much play time, so I dusted off the head and got the spider webs out. Running along side the Mark IV and Mark III, I can tell that the Mark V don't have anywhere near the balls that the III and IV have. This is just my opinion. I own one, just don't think it is in the same league as its predecessors. There.....Still, I will hang onto it. It is not a bad amp by any stretch of the imagination. It covers a broad range of switchable tones. But, if you are looking to replicate the IIC+, III or IV, it ain't gonna happen.

Anyway, getting the III and IV dialed in for maximum damage. One thing with the Triaxis, I can't seem to get the 2:90 to work for me here. Gonna slide the 50/50 back in and see how it compares. I remember liking it better. All tubes are stock in the TA and power amps. Oh yeah, stock tubes still in the Mark V. Changing the preamp/power tubes may have some effect on it.

Back to the Testoster-Room.....

It seems the more that Boogie tries to get an amp to cover all these different tones that the overall tone starts to suffer. I like the IIC+ the best of the Mark series, then the III, then the IV, with the V on the bottom. And with each amp Boogie loaded more and more crap into each one.
