Long time caller first time listener. So She said she was clean but now it itches....jk just a plexi itch.
Im all over the place and thought RT would be helpful maybe. Im not sure what I want so this may be moot.
A dv-1 is on sale and ive always been interested in mr George's work.
Also a fortin meshuggah and kali.
And it got me wondering
* if geronimo is still making plexis.
*reconsidering ceriatone all access.
*Somewhat thinking on splawn, sloane, or friedman things too.
I have a Dr z ems, Headfirst evil joe, marshall jcm 800 reissue for my marshall sounds. Plus a Caswell 1987 and mr scary mods to add.
My high gain modern guys lichtlaerm peometheus, ground zero hellion, mesa rev g dual rec, mesa mk 7, engl e670. ksr orthos.
Fortin caught my eye because of the kali marshall thing I think and not high gain modern sound. My high gain modern is pretty covered. Also maybe caught my eye since it doesnt come up much on resale.
That hard rock sound though. I had a 1987x that I really liked and when I put in a evo hot mod, phenominal. What I have now doesnt cover it.
Heard some good superleads 1959hw and slp. The eqs lovely. Great level of gain. It sang and did rock/early metal great. No mvc is a pain though. Amp had issue so I returned it before deep dive into ppimvc.
Dr z ems covers a shit ton, throw in a mr scary and forget about it. Does a mean early marshall/jtm and marshall/jcm800. The sound to me is better than the originals ive encountered. It can get pretty modern with a ksr eros and the mr scary if I feel like it. The frequency of eq, dynamics between eq, choices of cascade vs naw or tube rectifier vs naw, the upper mid and treble/presence and level of nfb is superb. It just cant get me the 1987x sound or what ive heard from others.
Evil joe and jcm 800 do their respective things but doesnt cover this for me.
I guess in a nutshell.
*Is geronimo still making amps? From what I read this is or was a really good plexi clone too with a mvc.
*With so many choices for great plexi clones + their own bells/whistles, does dv-1 do a 65, 66 and 1968 plexi so beautifully there is no equivalent and price tag is justified?
* ppimvcs in plexis. The sound i loved, is it achievable with a ppimvc or does it really need to be cranked.
*or alternatives folks recommend. Friedman my general worry is the treble being too tame. Ceriatone being like Dr z, awesome but not quite the thing. Splawn sloane even headfirst alta being like headfirst evil joe.
