So far I've really enjoyed the following speaker blends:

Freyette P50E/Celestion V30
Celestion V30/Celestion T75
Celestion V30/Celestion K100

What speaker blends does everyone else around here do in their cabinets?

Cheers,

Greg

I went through a speaker swapping phase about a year ago. I had a MF400 cab with G12K-100's and I found a cheapo no-name cab on craigslist but it was loaded with V30's and G12T-100's. I mixed and matched them in just about every combo but I ended up liking 2 V30's and 2 K100 in an x pattern the best. It was really 3D sounding but I like my small block loaded Splawn 4x12 better.

Splawn 2x12 w/ eminence Governor + Legend.
Never experimented w/ speaker combos but am very happy with this combo.
Always considered subbing a v30 in but happy enough not to justify spending another 100 bones

Eminence legend/Weber british series
V30/Splawn SB
V30/T75's

Et 65s/ Reaper HPs for me. ET 65/Veteran 30s come really close as well for me too.

I really liked the Splawn SB and V30 mix. Only problem I had was that the SB was not as loud (db) as the V30. They sound great together though. I've also tried V30/G12K-85s and that was nice also. I just ended up going all V30 but since borrowing my friends Splawn 2x12 over the weekend I've decided I want another cab with Greenback type speakers. Not sure which ones. The Small Blocks rock. I'd like to try the EVH cabs with my amp too.

Here are some speaker clips I recorded yesterday.

WGS Invader and Liberator. The Invader have a nice smooth sound which seems to be like a good cross between a greenback and Vintage 30, on the modern side. The Liberator bring some aggressive bite and "crackle"; on their own I think it's a bit overbearing for my tastes (although I'm sure some heavy metal players will love the Liberator on its own). Together you get the best of both worlds.

Another combination I like: Weber 12V ceramic, and Legacy (65W, 30 oz magnet, British dustcap, 75 Hz). I like both speakers on their own, but combining them gets me a nice combination of mid range and greenback-type grind. This is a more old-school sort of sound compared to the WGS combination mentioned above.

Mesa V30 + Celestion V30
V30 + G12M-25

I prefer them in separate cabs.

I have an Eggie 2x12 with a stock Egnater Lead 80 and a Mesa v30. The 80 seems to mellow out the icepick effect a v30 is known to have. Egnater 80 also worked well with a China made Greenback. Really good volume balance between speakers with Grnback/80 combination. I changed to the v30 because the Grnback broke up just too damn early. Otherwise I would have kept it.

I'm digging two Weber Legacy M75s mixed with two Chinese Greenbacks.

Recently tried Mesa V30/65w Weber Legacy and it sounded great!

Cel. V30 / G12T-75
