[Exo-metal]

So I've had an old gibson explorer that needed work and it's been in the shop for a while. I decided to get it done and was asked about a few details. I found this and thought maybe it might make so.e good discussion. Anyone familiar with these details?

Didn’t know they were different. I bought a black 80s Explorer new from Germany couple of years ago but both had finishing issues or manufacturing issues. The shop ran out of replacements so took my money back. I have a ~2016 Traditional Explorer with black HW but a well finished and good 80s Explorer would be nice.

Mine will be sick, abalone circles instead of the dots and abalone logo, SS frets/graphite nut and matte black finish. Only reason I did all this is bc it has such a nice jet black piece of ebony.

I haven't played one of the '80s Reissues, but from what I remember of the actual '80s I've played, they were a little thinner front to back than the '90s on that look like the current '80s reissue. These may be closer to what a '76 was, but the real '80s are a little different. Same thing with the Flying Vs, too.

Here're my two... the white one is a 2007 guitar of the week, and the black one is a 2000 '76 reissue.

I definitely like the profiles of the newer one. I asked for mine to mirror the two at the bottom, nothing I can do about the upper horn.
