I Need a Preamp Pedal

BUT SINCE YOU'RE HERE:

I need a preamp pedal for a kazoo. I was thinking like an acoustic preamp and DI kinda pedal, or maybe just boost and EQ. I don't need much gain, but some compression would be nice. What would you suggest?

Yeah. It's a custom kazoo designed to fit the Kazoobie Humbucker kazoo pickup. I run it into a EHX Pitchfork and a Zcat Delay-Reverb pedal. I want a preamp pedal for it.

I'm not to up to speed on Kazoo pre amps ..... I can build something based around an audio transformer .... instead of a transistor or op amp

Yeah, something like that, but maybe with compression. I never used compression on kazoo, and I feel like a fool admitting that. I don't have a spare compressor pedal laying around, but I repurposed my Booster Mini and my Pultec EQ pedals to try out. Maybe a clean(ish) boost and a compressor might do the trick.

I'm an absolute Tex Avery nut !! Grew up on that stuff !!

I heard Dave Friedman talking about the BI-FET on a Tone Talk episode .... I totally forgot about that pedal ....

so I'm going to build one ... and call it the Crambone .... but I could put that graphic on any pedal/circuit if you wanted

I repurposed some guitar pedals to try out on kazoo. This is what the board looks like.

I'm just using a 1Spot and a daisy chain to power it. The board is plexiglass with LEDs along the front. Signal path is:
MXR Booster Mini > Electro Harmonix Pitchfork > Griffin Analog Pultec EQ > Zcat Delay-Reverb > DI box

I think that will work.
