you could get both of those for less than that hacked up 2c+(I jest-I jest!!)...what can a 2c+ do that a IIb coli and a III blue stripe coli could not do? imo....
The III coli isn't in the same league as the II colis. Killer amps, but side by side they can't keep up.

Between the IIB and IIC+ colis the C+ (with any power section) is clearly the better lead amp. The C+ and the SLO do things with lead tone that are really hard to match anywhere. The IIB coli however has a rhythm volume & sound that will shatter other amps into little pieces and bury them in a shallow grave. The C+ is polite & soft in comparison. That being said, which TONE you prefer is personal preference since everyone has a different sound in their head.

Amps are worth whatever someone is willing to pay, in the end anyway.
This times 1000x. And the same goes with guitars. I refuse to be on the end of getting taken to the cleaners. Hell even cars, you want what you want and want it now… go pay a crazy premium.

There are still deals to be had out there. Patience is definitely rewarded. Just got a IIc+ srg original factory I’m moving to a head for 2k. Getting the ++ treatment at Mesa too currently. It’s not a coli I get that. But if I want it bigger I’ll just slave it. Every live setting I’d ever use it in would get micd up anyway.

Awesome score man. My SG++ is the tightest, most aggressive C+ I’ve played. It’s a vicious little sumbitch.

Yep, my fav C+ tone was my first, the SRG. And, as hard as it is to believe as a 2C it was even better….most raw, open and angry amp I ever had. Hate to say I regret + ing it, I had to since it was my first C+ experience but it lost that jagged aggressive nature it had.

Now, imagine that C sound & feel with 180W and no negative feedback. :)

Are you saying your 2B is similar? Hmm road trip west in the future…??
Mike said these really late IIBs like I have are more IIC than IIB. I just wish you would have given yours a chance before you sent it off to be C+ modded.

Not hard to believe, just unexplored territory for most trying a IIC that hasn’t been +‘d and maybe they don’t wanna believe lol. It is hard for me to believe though if for just pure openness it could rival a Wizard, Hiwatt or your 72, but who knows

I had a IIC H - no ‘verb / EQ - it was a direct and vicious amp that I couldn’t bring myself to +’ing, and had amazing cleans as well. Sure, the loop sucked, but it was a visceral beast, I wound-up selling it in a move to single-channel down-sizing frenzy, and regret it to this day. It’s since been +’d and EQ’d, so it’s no longer the “simple” amp it once was.

Sounds up my alley. Almost makes me wanna send my c+ to Mike B to get un-+‘d lol. I rarely use fx loops anyway

My very first C was a HRG C. I had it +, then later had it ++. While the lead tone was definitely better as a +, TBH, the rhythm & cleans are mind blowing as a C & I also always regretted modding that one. But like with Racer, it was my first C+ experience and I had to do it at the time. In hindsight, I should have left it alone.

I don’t think any mark I’ve owned or played is especially open sounding. Quite the opposite really.

I’d like to try a IIB for 30 minutes or so. An original nonplussed C would be cool as well. Probably about 5 of those left ant this point lol. Only mark I’ll never buy again is a Mark III

I can see that. The lead tone has to me always one of the places where the c+ really shines over other amps. You’re the 3rd guy I’ve heard now regretting getting it +’d lol. Maybe some guys should send there’s in to Mike B to get unplussed

I agree. I wouldn’t really consider any marks or Recto’s to be open sounding amps at all and the only marks I haven’t tried has been a mark IIC and 60w IIC+ and the only recto I’ve not tried is a Rev E. That being said, my iic+ and Rev C would both be in my top 3 even though I generally like a more open sound

Oh, I absolutely did...at the time, I didn't have a 2C to donate for the swap. I played it for a month before it went out. It sounded to me, a little more like a Mark III than any Mark II...it didn't have that vintage tone, less organic so to speak. I boosted it, played it straight in, it was ok but nothing special.
MUCH MUCH better after getting it back as a C+. Absolute no brainer there. Not even debatable.
It sounds like yours has some special sauce like my first SRG 2C.

I will say though, that the 2C S combo I scored that I sent to Mike B for the swap, that 2C was very meh sounding. Not even close to the 2C SRG I had. But the non eq super fast pick response was very unique.

I’d bet still most 2C’s with GEQ’s probably sound great (however many even are left at this point lol). I also like the fast response of the non-EQ Mark’s I’ve played (not as much the sound), although at this point vs the Hermansson’s or Dino I tried everything else I’ve tried has a slow response comparatively LOL
