I was of the understanding that the site is French owned or based, and thus could very well fall under European GDPR jurisdiction. I would appreciate and think others would appreciate some transparency about current ownership and intentions. Most of these forums seem to change hands, so even assuming the present owner is well-meaning and protective of personal data doesn't assure future owners will be.
I basically agree, although probably most of us in OT like to vent quasi anonymously without worrying that what we say will be viewed by employers, future employers, family, spouses, the general public, etc. Furthermore, we know that state agency's, internet providers and so on likely know or can know our identities. There are a lot more restrictions that govern what they can do with that knowledge than a disgruntled and volatile forum member.
People can and do win/settle defamation or harassment suits arising from online activity. And some of that behavior can amount to criminal conduct as I already noted. I doubt whether anything here has reached that level. But as I also noted, anyone can bring a lawsuit or allegation that could potentially incur real world time, cost, stress, etc., even if ultimately unsuccessful.
