PRS vs Gibson

A "good" Gibson pawns PRS every time...its finding that GIbson thats a bitch.

Especially the new gibbys. Ive seen some nasty craftsmanship come out of that factory lately

i heard some dude playin one of the combos at rudys in nyc.......didnt like it at all it had a really uneven sound to it

but yea thers a prs se with a floyd thats SICK but i like to enjoy the finer things in life .......... i wish they made some of ther higher end ones with floyds......

prob not pickin that one up as i really avoid buyin guitar related shit off ebay

WOAH. Hold up. 2 things.

1. How long before Paul Waggoner and Dustie Warning from Betwen The Buried And Me buy it?

2. The back of the neck at the nut.. looks like it's broken? :S :S That can't be new.. and even if it is.. I've seen much nicer PRS guitars and it'd be cheaper to get one of those and have an OFR installed.

Yeah, the locking nut installation at the top looks like it was done terribly. You could most likely buy a Custom like that for like $1400 - $1600 and get one installed. I guess if you don't want to hassle and don't mind the price it'd be okay. But for that price, I'd be getting an SC 250 artist with a normal trem.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'd do. a locking tuner set and a standard PRS trem or a Wilkinson will get you pretty much on par with a FR in most ways IMO, without the hastle. I own two LFR guitars and I blocked one out of sheer frustraition and want for tuning changes. PRS also make some of the best trems in the business IMO.

Definately a SC 250 artist for me aswell, or maybe a Custom 24. I prefer a longer scale length for comfort, (and intonation if I I wanna tune low for any reason. If only Gibson made 25.5" scale guitars, the only longer than 24.75" scale I know is the Buckethead LP which is 27" scale.

Both Gibson and PRS put out some great guitars. I'm currently playing a Gibby les paul, so thats my favorite now. Honestly, they are equal in my book so which ever is in my hands in the best IMO.

I'm not even going to read the thread. Just going to say that I hate these PRS vs. Gibson threads. They are two very different beasts. It's like comparing a Les Paul to a Telecaster.

Not to mention the usual PRS bashing that comes about.

I have a 1990 Prs custom 24, but I have 3 Les Pauls, I love them them all, but the Prs doesn't come close to the sound of a Gibson Les Paul

I own both and love both, if i had to choose just one i will take my les pauls, i love the gibson tone and im just happy i dont have to make that choice.

I've had a bunch of both, and like them both, I just settled on McCartys because they fit me good and are very consistent from guitar to guitar. I dont like all PRS stuff, but I love those They are quite a bit fatter sounding than other PRS models, and once I got the right pups in them it felt like home

I honestly love both, but find the PRS's to be much more consistant as far as a "good one" goes. I'd be much less worried buying a PRS without playing it first than a Gibson.

I played a LP for many years before I played a PRS. Shortly thereafter, I had a PRS. Gibsons are shit IMO. My SC250 kills any Gibson I've ever played. Though I'd still like to have an R8.

That's pretty funny, just make sure you don't hit the headstock too hard or it'll break right off.

I'm an LP guy... Sure, they've maintained much of the same body shape and design since they 1st arrived back in the day, 50's or so, and with this staying on course and not deviating from true design, haven't really "evolved". I look at PRS and some others out there, and there's cutaways on the back for close-to-body feel, smoother necks, better high-fret access, lighter with equal quality woods, etc. But for me, old school as they may be, they're my guitar. I pick one up and I'm instantly "at home". I have 3, a '68 Firemist that's ridiculously heavy , a '57 GTDB that's the sweetest thing since ass, and a '57 BB triple pup that nails home drop d tunings like nobody's business. The necks are superb, the tone, just sick, and the balance when held with strap or lap - perfect. So, there's always going to be better guitars most certainly - the ones which have evolved and change and tweak to player preference... The true Les Paul is harkening back 60 years almost - so it's a clunker, really, in comparison to many others. But my 'clunkers' are the biz to me, I love 'em.

Ya, I'll always have LP's and LPC's in my main go-to arsenal, all others with simply come and, inevitably, go...

I played one of those Santana PRS at $5000 and was blown away and then
played another PRS at $7000 and it was POS made out of extremely nice wood...

I've tried PRS guitars many times, in fact I tried a single cut today at Sam Ash, and it was just ok. I expect more than ok for 3k! I want to like them, but I need a guitar to do more than just look good.

Funny? Really? I take it that you don't play LP's much...I never seen a headstock fall off while playing it hard or even pushing on it for pitch dips....unless it falls just right or you throw it on the ground. I've beaten the crap out of mine many times and the headstocks are still there. Come on now!
