Reb Beach rips on Hammett

+1, the opening riff to Seventeen kills. I caught them a couple of years back and they kicked ass.

As far as metal up your ass, I like Kirk. He is NOT one of my favorite guitarist. I have seen him play outside of Metallica and the boy can play. I feel there are guitarist in the mainstream scene that have more going for them with their gimmicks. I would name some, but that would require another thread. There are some KH solos I like, but most do suck. I do give KH credit as there are not many guitarist that are in this genre who can solo. Take Loomis, Skolnick, Friedman they are all pretty tastefull. Hammet is a little better than Kerry King when it comes to solos for this genre. There is no doubt the boy can play, but for last few years his wah is just as annoying as Zakk Wylde's pinging.

What Hammett solos can you hum? I thought all the cool, tasteful, hummable solos such as MoP were Hetfield...

A better question is, is it possible to hum a bad vibrato? :D

Ok....here is the Million Dollar question.......

"Which Band had a larger impact on the Music industry?"

A) WINGER

B) METALLICA

Now think really hard on this one.......... :hys:  \:D/ :checkthisout: :worship:

I'm by no means a Winger fan but there where a lot worse back then. Brittany Fox anyone? Enuff Z Nuff? Saigon Kick? The list goes on.

The same industry that has the rock hof? That thinktank?

Yeah sign me up to follow clearchannel and "the industry"..........................

Its all funny. I think Metallica has a couple of Douches in the band but I like both bands.
Actually there was a time (Pre-beavis and Butthead) where I was listening to Winger more then the Metallica crap.

Tony Iommi also has a fast, nervous vibrato. By most of the posters criteria, we should discount his other abilities and contributions to music as well. :loco:

Most of the Hammett haters couldn't RIFF their way out of a paper bag.

Lets be Realistic...
How many of us grew up on Metallica and thought Hammet was good back in the day? Probably a lot of us, including myself. Now, i cant stand the thought of his solos and his forsaken wah pedal garbage... Im sure he doesnt practice because hes too busy surfing and spending all his loot. (cant really blame him for that one though..) But i think many of us have evolved as players and kind of grown out of liking his style of playing. What Reb said was not really a cool thing to say REGUARDLESS as to whether its true or not.
My two cents is that i cant stand Kirk Hammets solos, BUT i respect him, and when i was a kid i loved learning his solos. (pre-wah pedal days;)

Iommi's missing 2 fingertips. What's Kirk's excuse?

Very well put.
I liked Kirk Hammet.....still do.
Not as much as when I was a teen when Ride the Lightning was out there....but I still like him and only listen to the early stuff.
Is Reb a better player? In my opinion...ABSOLUTELY!! I still like them both and respect both of them.
They have done more than I have in the Guitar playing.
And as far as I know....more then anyone here reading this board.

They have both made a huge impact on many guitar players lives.
Which is my goal and ultimately what i want to do someday. ..except on a deeper level aside from just music and playing.

Thats awesome!
Its so easy to pick on people and point out faults then to give them props.
What the fuck is wrong with people?
My Guitarist can beat up your guitarist....
They are both awesome in their own rights!
I guess I am just too easy going and dont have a hard on for people.
Well maybe Donbarzini.......

Reb Beach is a million times better than Hamster. We all know he's completely right.

I am a huge Reb fan but what's up with the chaps? I don't have an opinion one way or another. I don't think Kirk is that great of a guitar player but has been a part of some pretty memorable music pre-1990s. Reb could have said things a bit more tactful but who cares. People who are getting up in arms over this need to relax. The comments won't hurt Kirk's career and those that like Reb think it is funny. Life goes on!

The same industry and HOF group that will continue to look past Rush for inclusion. It is a travesty!!

With Steve Morse being the perfectionist that he is, you have to think that his vibrato sounds like that on purpose, for whatever reason.

Wow, that's pure denial. His Vibrato sounds bad because he wants it to sound bad? now I've heard it all

I think it's funny barely anyone rips on Zakk, at least not to this extent. I guess it's because his vibrato is so good that no one notices he pinches off harmonics like it's a cutting edge technique and plays in one of the crappiest bands around (BLS). Not to mention his voice, that's another subject all in itself :(

  I can't do it man. I haven't heard any of the newer stuff but that's because I deemed it un-listenable years back. If they would have just hired a real singer that would've probably improved the whole thing by about 1000%

Its like listening to the same song........over and over and over....on different albums with different song titles...
Blessed Hellride had a few nuggets on it. "Stoned and Drunk" is a sweet little diddy.

Hay guys if the guitarist who made the most money was the greatest then that guy who played the solo for beat it would be the....oh wait.

I wonder what is the biggest source of income for the rock stars? Tours, album sales? We all probably think Eddie has more money than God but i bet there's plenty of rock players who have made more than him. I know the guys in AC/DC have more money than some 3rd world Countries and playing for Bon Jovi probably made Ritchie some coin. I believe Bon Jovi has sold more albums than VH.
You may be right about ac/dc but I assume ritchie lost quite a bit of money in his divorce. Eddie's probly getting royalties for many products.
