I can’t get excited about this Rev C Recto pimping.
I bought into this same rhetoric and bought a 2C+ and to me, it was just another amp. A very expensive another amp at that.

One thing my advanced years have taught me, is once you dial in a certain amount of gain/overdrive, a lot of these amps sound VERY similar. The differences are in the feel and tightness or spongy response mainly.
All the over the top gain also makes all your expensive guitars sound the same too.

You guys who are my age, 59 , and you still get off on this over the top gain and the weedly weedly leads…….More power to ya.
I hear you man. I am 42 and already playing low gain as hell, by the time I am 50 I will probably be playing an Ovation acoustic through a jc120 or something

I love the Hermansson and you’re totally right on the money. That thing is totally distinct from the old 2 channels. It has its own thing but damn it’s a great thing
Yeah I think they have the overall Hermansson sound like his rebuilds do, but with some remnants of the core recto sound in there, so it’s imo thicker and tonally more interesting and maybe like just 2% less tight than the Marshall 5GS’s lol, still tighter than the other 99.9% of amps

It's the very first Recto, which is collectable on it's own. Like Tiago said, 260 or so total. But, tonewise, they are fn amazing. Straight up kicks the shit out of any other version recto, 5150, and as cool as the SLO is the C I had ate it up for what I like anyway. It thumps at volume like a Triple or damn close to a Wizard, clarity as good as anything...straight in it sounds like an already boosted F but way tighter...boosted the C becomes insanely good. Hermansson Rectos? Nah...not similar in the least. At least from the clips I've heard, and while they are cool they seem to have a hole in the mids vs a stock Recto. The C, you can dime the mids AND the bass and it's just better mids and better bass...you can't dial in a bad tone with the EQ. It loved every speaker I have, and the feel is different but equally addictive like a C+. Rectos aren't known to be amps with great lead tone BUT the C delivers, I actually liked it best among all Mesas including the 4 C+ I had....SRG, HRG, HRG++, and a Coli.
It's a killer amp and compared to a G, like a totally different circuit altogether. Like unrelated in any way if you compare the tone.
Worth that coin? Well, if you are willing to cough up 8K for a C+, then I wouldn't hesitate to cough up that much for a C Recto.
Just my 2 cents....

BTW I C modded an F Triple, and while it was a nice improvement to the red modern it still doesn't do what a real C does.

Edit: I should also add that the C I had, was with Mike B within the last 2 years...so it was in perfect condition regarding the circuit.

so were these the "pre500" ones i been hearing about forever?

I’ve considered just grabbing a triple recto multi watt and changing out the OT and calling it done. My max I’ll pay for an amp is what I paid for my mark III++ Coli and I won’t go above that for a single amp. Guitar? Sure. Amp? No. The speakers and individual components make as much of a difference and I can take a dog of an amp and turn it into a fire breathing monster easily.
My 3 channel will be going to Michael when he’s ready.

Cool story Michael.
Good luck reproducing 30 year old transformers with modern materials.
Yeah, don't know about that dude's assertions. The OT is definitely important, but so is the preamp circuit, how it's laid out, what particular parts were used, etc etc. It ALL matters. The 2B Marks, used the same transformers as the C+ (exception would be the DRGs) and you cannot get a 2B into a C+ UNLESS you have an RP10 or 11 pre board. So that shoots his assertion right there. Same with rectifiers. And, the power section of the Rev C is a monster and very different than any other Recto I've played. It doesn't oversaturate so soon up the master, like any other Recto does; nor does it seem underpowered vs its rating like other Rectos.
Way more to it than just the OT.

Beyond Black I'll be in your neighborhood today. Can I borrow your C? I'll leave my Peavey Penta as collateral!

For whatever its worth I did not even like Mesas until I played the older ones--in fact they were my most hated amp haha.

I didn't mind the 3ch... really liked my rack G and then I swear my F has magic pixie dust inside because it's incredible.
