People with multiple EQ pedals: why don't you just buy gear that sounds good?

But no! The everlasting secret to tone is putting an EQ before and after your EQ, then using tertiary EQs to mitigate the issues caused by having that many EQs! It makes perfect sense!

I’ve come up with a new concept; anti boosting. A concept so idiotic only I could have dreamt it up. You’ll need 3 pedals. TC EQ/boost (clean, transparent & powerful) x 2 and your favorite OD of choice (eg Tube Screamer).

Signal chain: TC EQ/boost set to -15db level and maximum attenuation of bass/treble frequencies. You’ve got to starve that input signal man. Then tone, gain and level at 10 (maximum) on the Tube Screamer. Or you can be adventurous and use a MetalZone instead. At this point you’re lucky if your signal is even approaching unity gain, though that IS the goal here. Then the second TC EQ/boost is set once again, with every knob at full cut because we’ve got to clean up the mess we created with the Tube Screamer/Distortion unit.

So there you have it. How make your amp sound like it’s behind 3 curtains, hiss like a sandstorm and be muddy yet brittle at the same time! Ladies and gentlemen, this is anti-boosting

Isn't it though. The only thing that could make this tone better would be an additional EQ built into the guitar. Then record with a cell phone (preferably a Motorola or Blackberry) and use an EQ'ing app for that final fine tuning.
