Redplate Magica 100

My 50w RedPlate Magica is finished, and I'll receive it this week. I put Keith through the ringer, though, and sent him two sets of NOS/ANOS glass for him to try. So I was all hot to get playing again...then all these orders came in, 400 frames are arriving this week, and my 69 Firebird is finally heading off to paint.

Something tells me it will be the weekend before I get to do any serious riff mangling or fluffed runs! LOL

What speakers are you planning on running it through? Ive got those BM75 LD's I just got from you that I'm really digging with Magica.

When Keith was here five months ago I pulled out of my 2x12 straight cabs with an M75/M55 (bottom) mix. That sounded pretty decent to start. I have a few combinations to try, though!

Ha was that you playing? I watched your vid a few times when I was trying to decide on an amp purchase. It helped steer me on to a Magica, so thanks for that!
Mine is due next month.

Awesome! Yeah thats me playing, sorry! lol.

The 50w Magica has landed. I paid my last $800 of the $2800 price. I got $200 off for supplying my own tubes (yeah, that's how much five 12AX7 and two EL34's cost now).

I wound up with a mix of NOS Mullard, Sylvania, and Amperex Bugle Boys in the preamp sockets, and two Siemens EL34 (NOS matched) in the power tube sockets. The amp is, IMO, warmer with the NOS glass (big surprise, right?).

I have 7 recones to do, plus 12 speaker orders to build, plus the usual packing & shipping. That means I won't be able do the whole "holy fuck!" honeymoon review until later...but keep in mind, I played this amp through a V30 in 2017 so I knew what I was getting already. It just got better with NOS glass and an M55/M75 65w Scumback loaded 212 cab (8 ohms, 130w power handling).

There are more switches than I'm used to, but I look forward to trying them out.

Jim
