So I got this amp about 2 months ago. Got it for a really good price IMHO but the original headshell was not included. I am guessing the amp was dropped at some point as the PT wings are a little bent. Everything works and it sounds tits.

Here's how it shipped:

Ordered a new headshell from RawCabs on eBay. Dude makes some really nice stuff. All pine which I wasn't sure about but the prices are really good, dovetail joints and lots of good buyer feedback. He built a headshell for a friends Orange that looked slick.

Here's a pic after I drilled the holes for the chassis. That was literally the scariest part and thank god I got the holes lined up right!

I am going to be dying the headshell black. I got 2 extra front baffles to cover in various grill cloth and piping in case I want a different look.

Here's the test board:

And with a couple coats of Polycrylic

Got the headshell taped off and doing flat black inside the shell

Hopefully I'll get it dyed tonight and cleared this weekend.

Big improvement (even in the raw) over the white one IMO

Outside going to be dyed as well? I thought you said it was, but the two-tone looks pretty sweet

Yeah the white was TERRIBLE! A few folks tried convincing me to just do the front baffle on the white one in white to match. I was like, "Hell no!!!"

Looks awesome! Will you do piping? White? Light grey might be cool, to repeat the light parts of the stain...

On the main front baffle, no. But on the other 2 I will be covering with grill cloth and piping. Mojotone has a really cool red/black pattern like an evil salt & pepper pattern.

Cool! Pine sounds like it's lighter? Looks like a solid cab.
Yes. Definitely lighter. I know folks seem to like pine guitar cabs. The guy that made this one has a ton that he makes.

First round of dye. I'm pretty stoked.

Speaking of Deliverance... I absolutely love the D412 with my D60 but have been wanting a D212 since forever and I'm finally getting one tomorrow, with the Fane F70G's. I'm totally excited to hear how this thing sounds and my back should appreciate it some too.

Ooohhhh...

Really loved the D212 I had a few years ago. Would love to check out the new ones with the Fanes.

Also, here's a pretty thing...

I didn't know you had the D212. So you dug it? Did you compare it to the D412?

That looks great... but, what I'd actually do is hit it lightly with some 220 to bring out a bit of the wood grain and lighten it slightly. Would look spiffy, but of course this is all a matter of taste.

Some 000 steel wool would probably do the same thing without the threat of getting into the wood to much.

Personally, I dig the look. Almost looks charred. Conjure up some sinister shit, sort of thing

Appears to me that the pine may have soaked up all your clear coat & then some.
I've never finished wood that lightly before, but you're going to be handling this thing quite a bit.

Sure you don't want to go back to the white?! :D

Well done, man

Absolutely, would have the same effect but lighter. I like more of the wood showing which is why I'd do 220 or maybe 320.

It does look charred.

So I am definitely going to try this. How many more coats of polycrylic you think? I've done 3 and sanded between each but not with too much pressure to it. More superficial.
